Need Pointers on Post-op Pregnancy
Hello all.....I am new to the prego board, but am planning on trying for my first baby post-op RNY around aug. At that time will be about 23mo out, i currently feel great however concerned about vit levels. Most of mine have been good however been low on iron and vit D which are 2 key vits for growing baby. I would love any and all feedback on vit routines and freq. of getting levels checked. I met with my new OB last week do to a cyst that really likes my rt ovary and discussed desire to get preg. He didn't feel there would be an issue and seems confident on a normal preg depending on results of U.S. of ovary. Went for U.S yesterday and it has finally resolved thank The Good Lord. So see OB next week again so he can fianlize the findings of the U.S. and will discuss the plans for pregnancy. I would just like to have a game plan ahead of time, because sometimes the doctors are learning from us as post-op WLS pt. So agin if anyone would like to share i would love to hear. Also, (sorry so long winded) i had PIH during my last preg mostlikely due to weight (335lbs) was wondering if that would reoccur post WLS (165lbs). Just wondering.....humm....i of course will ask OB as well.
Thanks

Hey Tiff! Welcome to our board and congrats on a phenomenal weight loss and good luck on TTC. It's quite the ride. OK... so the vites... here's the thing... most people are vit D deficient. At my 1 yr post-op appt, my bari surgeon found that I was and recommended that I increase my vit D intake to 2000 iu per day. I do know some people that have to take prescription strength vit D. it's all dependant on your level. And Iron... yeah that's an important one. I was also a little low on that one at my 1 yr as well. My bari surgeon recommended that I take Vitron-C brand of iron. It is iron and vit C combined together. the vit C helps us absorb the iron better. I take 2-3 of those tabs each day and my iron levels are back to normal.
Bottom line, I would suggest that you talk to your OB and your bari surgeon about that. Have your current vite levels drawn and then have them direct to you what you should take. Iron shots are also available if your iron is extremely low.
Good luck to ya!
