When things dont turn out as expected.....
Hi ladies...havent posted in a long time, but wanted to share my experience. I had gastric bypass in April 2010, found out was pregnant in Sept-Oct, only 5 months out...Was very very sick the entire pregnancy, had hyperemesis and threw up/nausea 24/7..pre surgery weight was 321 and pre preg weight was 225, delivered baby at 204 and now weigh 178. This is my fourth child, very unexpected. We have a 12 yr old, 8 yr old and a 6 yr old. I developed preeclampsia and went on bedrest a month prior to due date. Due to high blood pressure, an oncall physician decided to induce me on June 1st. (my doc was out of town) four hours into the induction I had a full abruption (placenta tears away from uterus), had a very emergency c-section, began to hemorrhage badly, ended up with an emergency hysterectomy, abdominal hematomas (where my abdominal wall tore from the trauma) and ended up needing 9 units of blood, plus plasma, etc. My daughter and I came very close to death that day. However, Praise God, she was born perfectly well, just needed some blow by oxygen. I stayed in hospital for 8 days and then went home only to return a week later for another stay due to fluid and blood pressure issues. Still recovering today, but having some serious abdominal pains...Im begining to wonder if its my gallbladder. Can anyone whos had gallbladder problems tell me what that feels like? Have appt with surgeon this Thursday. During this whole process was unable to take any vitamins due to nause/vomitting. Just now starting to take them. Very blessed we made it through all this!
Wowie! I'm so sorry you had so many complications during your pregnancy and then during delivery. But so glad to hear that you and your baby made it through ok. I haven't had any gallbladder issues, but my wife just did and had her gall bladder removed. It was sharp pains in left side of her abdomen that literally kept her up all night. They did an ultrasound and found numerous gall stones. Once the docs see that... off the surgeon you'd go. She had her gb removed 3 weeks before our wedding. UGH! But she healed up quickly and is doing so much better now.
If the abdominal pains that you are experiencing are gallstones, it's really a simple procedure and pretty easy to recover from it.
Good luck!

For me, GB pains were more mid-abdomen, sort of right below my sternum and radiated all the way through to my back. An intense, cramping pain. The first time it happened I thought I was having chest pains. They also didn't happen as soon after eating as all the literature says. The first attack was several hours after eating some cheese and the second attack was a few days later, a couple of hours after eating cheese flavored crackers. I ate other fat-containing foods in the interim, but apparently only cheese really set me off!

Mine happened while 27 weeks pregnant awful pain under my left breast that did not let up. I was vomiting so much that it ended up as foamy. gross I know. I went to er and they admitted me since no meds were making pain stop or the vomiting. I stayed 4 days on demerol and phenergan while OB said take it out and surgeon said no way she is pregnant, At 28 weeks I had open surgery to have it out, Pain was gone lol. Well other than healing while pregnant and still growing I am so happy you are both doing well

Wow...I'm sorry you had to go through all that trauma...but thank God you and your little girl are OK. I'm sure it scared the crap out of your poor husband thinking he could lose both of you.
Re the gb...I started having gb attacks when my son was 6 weeks old (pre-WLS). Mine was centered right below my sternum - in the diaphram area? - and radiated around my ribs to my back. I also felt chest pains. It wasn't until I touched my ribs on the right side that I realized where the pain was really coming from. It's a sudden onset pain that one minute you're fine, the next minute you're in agony....and I'd say it feels as bad, if not worse, than if you had a charlie horse type pain in your stomach/chest area.
Have your dr do an u/s and see if that's what it is. If it is, it can usually be removed laproscopically, which obviously helps with healing time...especially since you're still in the process of healing from your daughter's birth.
Best wishes.

If they do an u/s and do not find any stones etc...demand a decidious (sp?) scan. you lay on a table for 4hrs straight not moving, at some point in the scan they will come in and shoot you up with some nuclear medicine. They will ask you if you feel like puking and you have to tell them yes or no. EVEN IF you just "feel" like it, you have to tell them. What the scan does is measure as to how active your gb is. the "nuclear medicine" lights it up so they can see it plus it irritates it to "act out".
I had issues with my side since i was a teenager. They always did U/S and never EVER found any stones. went to work, nurse told me what test to get, went to my dr, she slapped her self in the head and said "I forgot about that test!". Got in had it done, what a shock, my gb was only working at 25%. called for automatic removal a couple weeks later.
As for you, THANK GOD you are GOOD AND YOUR BABY!!! as for the pain, it could also be a hernia that developed after your surgery. muscles being pulled etc couldve torn enough to make you have the pain there. Goto the dr, tell them what you want, hell, just tell them you want the scan and not the U/S. Good luck
