Weight/size estimate via Sono - what's your opinion?
Hi All,
I saw my OB on Tuesday and he was concerned because the baby went from measuring approximately 2 - 3 weeks ahead at my last two visits to measuring approximately a week behind. (I am 32 weeks and saw him last at 30 weeks.) He decided to send me for a sonogram to evaluate for intrauterine growth restriction.
I had my sonogram this afternoon and imagine my surprise when the tech tells me that she is measuring a weight of 4 lbs, 10 oz. She did a bunch of measurements and the Radiologist's report wont be available until next week so there is no final report as of yet. The best news was that the amniotic fluid did not appear to be low and all of her measurements are symetrical.
I called my OB after I left my sono appointment and asked why he is measuring her smaller than dates and they are measuring her larger than dates. His explanation is that the sono measurements can be off plus or minus a few pounds.....much like fundal height. Neither are an exact science.
What has your experience been?
Here is a pic of my little (big?) girl....

I had an ultrasound at 34w3d and my little guy was only estimated at 4lb12oz. They said he is in the 26th percentile. Has me a little nervous, but I also know those things can be off. Baby is also breech so he said they could be off a little. Good luck and I'm sure she will be fine! Everything else looked great for you so that's encouraging!
I had to be induced 4 1/2 weeks early with my last child due to Preeclampsia/Gestational Diabetes and the day before I delivered the U/S tech estimated my daughter to be just under 6 lbs when she was in actuality 7 lbs. 12 oz. at delivery. I highly doubt she gained almost 2 lbs in 16 hrs.... That was my experience. I hope for nothing but the best with your pregnancy and Congrats :D
