Non hormonal birth control advice.....

I am 3 months out from VSG and have lost 53 lbs so far, my husband and I tried and tried before surgery to have babies but to no avail, now we are having the reverse problem.

I can not take hormones, BC pills and implants made me sick and manic depressive.  We have been using condoms, but we all know those are not the most effective ways to prevent.

We want a child, but of course are waiting until it's safer for me to have one and plus he's about to have WLS (VSG) himself in about a month.

So, any thoughts on other methods?  We are just getting sick of using condoms, it really hinders those moments.

track your cycle, but that can be VERY tricky after surgery. It goes whacky afterwards. I was bleeding every 15days til i was put on the pill to get it back on track. it worked, thank god!.
I am going to get graphic, we are adults...pull out. if he does the deed to fast have him stop a couple of minutes before and "do something else". like i say, i know its graphic. ALSO goto a catholic church website and look up the section about natural birth control. they actually have some good advice on there. they encourage "pulling out" having sex during safe times etc...
Normal cycle 28days, theory we ovulate 15days after start of last period. NOW, for each day your cycle is OVER the 28 days, add a day to the 15>
SO if you have a 32day cycle, you will start to ovulate on day 18(have your basis covered) to day 23(once again have your bases covered)....so either double up on protection OR just dont do it. hope that helps? otherwise there really isnt any NONhormonal other than a diaphragm (sp?) or cervical cap, and that has to be place "just right"...or do what cleopatra did, half a hollowed out lemon smeared in alligator poo(natural diaphragm and spermicide)...there are also spermicide foams etc...remember the sponge from back in the day? you can do "natural sponges" too..
just research it out, i do recommend Cafemom and look for the "alternative birthcontrol" groups lots of info and great support!

There is spermacidal gel inserts. You get alittle more control on not breaking the mood cause you can put one in an hour or so beforehand and be fine. So if you know tonight you are going to jump his bones you can prepare and not have to stop.

Did you try low dose hormone pills? might not have the same affect on you.

Well I am graphic as well but like the pp said we are adults. We do the pull and pray. Or when he knows he is getting close, then we will stop having sex and I will "finish him"  teehee

I don't use birth control because I couldn't remember to take it everyday and I don't like using condoms.

Good luck sweety

pull and pray... condoms... sperm killing lubes... there is a copper iud that is no hormonal... if you put on a condom correctly... there is a pretty good chance you wont get pregnant... you can use a condom and the sperm killing lubes!

Condoms work just fine for us! I don't use hormonal birth control either, mainly because I have PCOS and am monitoring my natural cycles. Good luck!

I used a non-hormonal IUD for 18 months post op.  It was awesome.  Felt like a heavey period going in, and then no issues for 18 months.  Taking it out was  like pulling off a heavy bandaid.  Nothing that advil couldn't handle.

I, like you can not take hormonal BC.  The IUD is the best thing I have found.

Put it in and forget about it.

If you can't tolerate systemic hormones, you might still be able to tolerate a mirena IUD. it uses a small amount of hormones, you don't need much since it is delivered directly to the uterus. It doesn't have the effect of causing heavier periods the way a copper IUD can. Some people do have spotting problems the first few months it is ion though. I'm on my second mirena and I've loved it!

We were always a condom couple since I refuse to take hormonal bc. As much as wrapping it up, "ruins the mood", I think struggling with a pregnancy early out, and dealing with a newborn was going to ruin the moods of many.

We also used the spermicidal inserts, and they worked fine. Pull and pray is a common thing, but they don't call it "pre-cum" for nothing.

Murphy's law resides in my home, and if one little strong swimmer was going to sneak out early, it'd happen to me. It took us a year to get pregnant after I hit my goal weight/being released to TTC, and it was an emotional rollercoaster.
