Newborn clothing for summer (due in 6 weeks)

Hello everyone :)  You would think I would know this answer considering I have a baby born last July as well, but what exactly do I dress my newborn in at the hospital during the heat of summer?  I think I remember doing one piece sleepers with feet plus a light blanket for swaddling, but now I'm thinking that may be too much.  Maybe just onsies with the lightweight blanket for swaddling?  I intend to swaddle in the beginning, so I don't want this little guy overheating....but there is also air conditioning everywhere so I'm lost lol

Suggestions?

Thanks!

The hospital blankets are light and great for swaddling and they give you a little hat for baby's head. I am in FL and in the heat. The majority of Liam's outfits are onesies. I got a few long button up jumpers but they have no feet. From what I have read beyond the first few days you should dress baby more like you would dress in the weather. Check using your hand at the trunk and back of the neck for baby's temp is a good guideline as well. The hands and feet are naturally cooler to the touch because of baby's circulation and doesn't always mean they are cold.

Hope that helps!

I honestly think I still have a few of those blankets from the hospital when Abby was born last summer...think I stole them by accident lol.  I have absolutely no boys newborn clothes so I'm shopping now or else he will be wearing nothing but pink :)  Thank you for the advice!

My guy lives in onesies and socks (sometimes babylegs in the evenings when it's cooler).
I also swaddle with Aden and Anais cotton muslin swaddle blankets http://www.adenandanais.com/
You can find them online or at Target, they're FANTASITC! and super light/breathable fabric.

Just looked online at those swaddlers and they are awesome...I'll have to check target here and see if they carry them, if not I"ll just order them online.  It's so hard to find blankets that are made more for summer and breathable!

i typed you this whole big long post.... and my internet shut down and i lost the whole thing.... ok try again ...

my hosp was colder at night then the day... so at night they wore zip up sleepers and a swaddle... during the day they worse onesies and a light blanket.... when we got home they wore the same thing at the same times.. minus the blankets... i had a swaddle me velcro thing for them... if we went out i would dress them in a "fancy onesie" LOL.. you know the ones that look like shorts... or the dress onesies lol... until they didnt have those hard sudden movements anymore... then they wore real clothing.

It's why I don't post that often....always losing it lol.  Good advice...I swear I remember putting Abby in one piece sleepers with a light blanket at the hospital...but I think it was because the AC was up pretty high there for some reason.  I'm also always paranoid about newborns being cold so I tend to overdo it I think (more a mental thing).  I have a ton of onsies I just bought...adorable and cheap lol.  Bought a bunch of socks and a couple little pants just in case.  I think once I get some one piece lightweight zip ups and those breathable swaddle blankets I might be good to go for the newborn phase.  I'm a firm believer in comfort for little babies over fashion.  I'm like you...I wait until they are a bit older to start dressing them up in real clothes.  Plus it seems like such a waste to buy a ton of expensive little outfits when they sleep all the time and need to be comfy and will just outgrow it in a week anyway :)  The onsies I got were adorable I thought.

Although...I got a ton of absolutely adorable girl newborn outfits for my baby shower that were never worn (summer outfits) so if anyone on here is delivering this summer feel free to write me...they are up for grabs.  Not the comfiest things but great for pictures and going out and showing off lol.  I'm getting my tubes tied with this one...6 is enough for me lol.

I did that after Abby....couldn't decide if  I should get my tubes tied or not.  Glad I didn't, but now I'm completely 1000% ready lol.

You could always get the 10 year copper IUD...no hormones and supposedly fairly easy.  If you ever did change your mind it could just be removed easily enough.  Just a thought.
