Has anyone seen Pregnant in America
I hated it, the husband and "director" were complete one sided jerks! Very very biased. I liked business of being born MUCH better.

Changed for good
...september 17, 2007...
it was a bit heavy handed. but i had never heard of that drug they were talking about. i can't for the life of me remember the name but it can be lethal if used on pregnant women (they said) and yet its being used all over the country. i was wondering if anyone had heard of this or had any info about it.
i seen it, didnt care for it. agreed was a one sided documentary...
He said that "they wouldnt tell him why their baby was in the NICU" if you looked at the pictures he took after the birth and right before you can tell there was meconium. Baby inhaled it.
"they kept holding her etc when we couldve been doing that" yes, granted...each hospital has their own protocol and when the baby is delivered at home by a midwife and not knowing themselves how the pregnancy went etc and delivery...they have to take every precaution possible to make sure nothing else is wrong or could go wrong with the baby.
I believe in home birth, i do. I loved the part they did on Amsterdam deliveries and wasnt the birth center in Germany? that was awesome too! I am thankful, however, that i delivered all my babies at the hospital. Each one had their own unique "health crisis" when they were born and while I was pregnant. My nurses listened to me, they encouraged me and went along with what I wanted with each delivery. From when my oldest who is 11, to my youngest who is 5mos...alot of policies have changed within the hospital...NO induction unless deemed medical necessary etc..One nurse kept insisting on breaking my water for Q, I wouldve said yes, but something told me dont do it...she respected that and said to me..."You know your body and you know your baby, go with your gut instinct. We WILL support your decision upto a point." hey good enough for me...
Using any drug while being pregnant and delivery is potentially fatal. Each person has a different experience with "everyday" used pain medications etc...They did do a good job on looking into all the different types of delivery, but like it was stated, dad/director/husband was a douche.

I watched Business of Being Born, and Pregnant in America. I think they are BOTH bias.
I am all for a woman birthing how she feels comfortable and safe, BUT......
I really wish people would understand its not about "your" (general you, not YOU) birth "experience", its about a baby and its journey into the world...SAFETY is more of a concern than anything in my opinion.
I am on another message board and there is this woman who is CONSTANTLY *****ing at the women who are "electing" to have a secondary section as to VBAC. I just always say to each her own. I want a healthy baby....I trust my doctor, if he says I need a different plan, well thats the route we will go.
just my two cents

Yep meconium is babys first poop, inside or out of the belly. When they poop inside they are usually stressed and just let it go, think of it as us having the "nervous belly"....when they do that then during delivery or even before they can inhale it into their lungs and get super sick. nothing can be done to prevent it. When a woman does a vaginal birth, the canal pushes all the "extra" fluids out fo the baby's body as he/she travels down. When the meconium is inhaled, it "usually" gets expelled out right away after delivery thru the suctioning etc, sometimes it does get all the way out and thats when baby has an issue. How do you know if he/she has pooped? When your water breaks is the only time you can really tell, either its clear or brown...during delivery when baby has a distressed hearrrate, it could be a sign of inhalation but not always.
As for a book? There are lots of them, i dont remember the name of the book that i absolutely loved but they actually had picture from inside the womb with each month of the baby development for pictures etc...Goto like Barnes&Noble or hell any book store and just look through all the baby books, and get the one that speaks to you...i, myself, didnt like what to expect when your expecting, but i did like the book that was "your pregnancy week by week"...another good source of info? Experienced moms! =) When you do ask other moms, just remember they are talking from THEIR experience not necessarily set in stone type of info...
