Hi ladies! I am new to this forum but have been lurking around for a few weeks now. I am two years out from Gastric Bypass. I started at 336 lbs and I'm down to 172lbs.

I have a few questions! Today is my first OB appointment--we think we are about 8 1/2 weeks pregnant. I have a son who just turned 7 and I had a very high risk pregnancy with him. I was 21 at the time and weighed 307 lbs. With him,at 28 weeks, I had a massive hemerage that came out as a nose bleed, low amniotic fluid at 30 weeks, bedrest beginning at 31 weeks due to high blood pressure and finally delivered him at 34 1/2 weeks via c-section.

I am two years out from gastric bypass and I had my gallbladder out this last January.

When I called the OB office to make an appointment I was 4 weeks pregnant. They said they didn't want to see me until my 8th week even though I have a history of high risk pregnancy.

A friend of mine went to the same doctor a few weeks ago and is about as far along as I am and they didnt do an ultrasound, just blood work. Should I ask for an ultrasound if they don't offer one? I just think it would relieve some stress and worry to be able to figure out exactly how far along we are especially with my history.....

What are your thoughts?

Thanks so much!

It never hurts to ask.  Are you using the same doc you did with your 1st?  If not make sure you fill this one in on everything that happened.  Most of the time the people anwsering the phones can't/won't advise/make decisions on when you need to be seen.

I say ask and if you don't like the anwser ask again.

Good Luck and welcome to the board.

Hi,
Congrats on your pregnancy! When I first found out I was prego they didn't want to see me until about 10 weeks too... I was having a cow over the phone and explained why I needed to be see before (multiple miscarriages plus a rny patient) and the dr let me come in to do an ultrasound just to be sure everything was progressing ok.  I say it never hurts to ask for an ultrasound as confirmation especially with your history.  Good luck to you!

Never hurts to ask all your ob can say is no.Mine didn't do one the day of but two days after i started bleeding and went in and he did one to find I had a polyp and then that's when I found out I was having twins then because past history he did one every month which was a Good thing my cervix was opening up and the had to do surgery to keep it closed.Never hurts to ask and if you feel you cant then I would find a different doctor.

May my Angles rest in peace.....
