Gender disappointment.

I really wanted a little girl.  I have a ds who is 11, and we've been trying since 2003.  I really wanted this to be a little girl so we could be done having kids for sure.  Granted, I'm only 32, and there is still time to have one more, but I still wanted that little girl.  I think I'm just now coming to terms with the fact that it's a boy and being excited about it.  It took me about two months.

All my life I grew up wanting "three girls".  I am the 7th generation of "Middle of three girls"....I'm the middle, my mother is the middle, my grandmother is the middle etc.....I wanted girls, my mother wanted me to have girls.....I was meant to be the mother of three girls.  My first born was a girl!!  I was elated, in love and just knew I was going to have my three girls....until I got pregnant with my second and in my heart of hearts knew it was a boy.  When I had my u/s and it was confirmed a boy, I cried and had the OB check again.  My u/s picture in the baby book...is not of his face, or his body...it's of his penis!!  I was in a funk for a few days.....I started to wear only blue and started shopping for baby "boy" stuff....it's amazing what shopping for baby stuff does for one.  Since the babies would be sharing a room....it was fun for me to find stuff that would work for both of them.

When I saw his face for the first time - I.was.in.LOVE!!  When baby #3 came along...I knew it was going to be a boy (and he was) and I was ok with that.

We are going to try for baby # 4 (and our last) in a few months.  I want a girl.  I've already started praying for a girl, reading books on how to try to get a girl (I know it's all up to chance).  I want another girl.....but also being the mother of boys....if I have another boy - I will love the child just as much as I would have should it be a girl.

Dissapointment is 100% normal.....with everything.....whether it being wanting a boy or a girl....getting that job you interviewed for....going on a vacation somewhere.....we set ourselves up for our expectations to be met and when they are not.....we get dissappointed....but we also get over it!!

So to answer your question....yes I've experianced it....twice....and I'm glad....because if baby # 3 was a girl...then I wouldn't be having a # 4 (and I really really wanted to have 4 babies after I found out that #2 was a boy!!)
