Weight Gain - Its going to happen.

Ladies,
Please, please, please do not take this the wrong way, but there have been a lot of posts lately about gaining weight during pregnancy. We all used to be heavy, that's why we are where we are. We all took some pretty extreme measures to lose the weight, and since we are all in this forum, Its safe to assume that we all want to be moms. Here's the deal. We fight our weight every day as WLS patients. Its a constant struggle to make appropriate choices from what we eat to how we exercise, or in my case, IF I even exercise!
But when you are pregnant, you have to expect to gain some weight. There are a million and a half studies that will tell you what appropriate vs. dangerous gain looks like, and even more sites to help you design a plan so that you remain healthy for you and baby. I guess my point is that the end goal is a healthy, happy baby and momma. But, you have to understand that you will gain weight. Will that weight be more for some and less for others? Of course - we are all different. WIll it fly off the second you have the baby? Probably not. But it will come off as long as you are taking care of yourself and trying to make healthy choices.
I'm no different than you all ... I am not in love with the gelatinous state of my rear end or the massive flap of my upper arm ... but its where I gained my weight with this baby, and I have to accept it. I will work on it once she's done baking and I deliver her. Its part of the sacrifice you make for the privledge to become pregnant and become a mother.
I wish you all healthy and happy gestations! :-)

You are totally right Jessica ... its a complete mind game - the weight issue, for all of us, and I hate how much control it STILL has over my life. But, you're already a momma, so you totally get how selfless you have to become as a parent. Your weight can't be your primary concern anymore when you are pregnant. And 14.5 is a really really good place to be at 26 weeks! I think you're doing really well! :-)

I gained 50 with Sage.  I only lost 25.  It sucks but it's a far cry from when I weighed 370 lbs.

RIght?! It's not fun. Additional gain sucks. But, you got that its part of the sacrifice, and you put Sage first. And you'll never be obese again, I am sure. :-)

Our weight is as much a mental struggle as a physical one. Thank you for the reminder to accept the weight gain. It is healthy and natural. But I also feel it is a valid response to get upset about the weight gain too. It is a valid emotion. You spend X amount of time and effort to lose X amt of weight and now here you are suppose to gleefully accept gaining as much as 50% of it back. (Like in my case)Alot of people on this board tried to get pregnant but some of us ..life happens. Now we are struggling to catch up mentally even those who planned to get pregnant.

Now with that said: You can recongize it is ok to feel upset or fearful about the weight but then after you had your moment you need to move on from it. Recongize it sucks to gain weight but then put it into prospective. There is a living thing inside you and that living thing is worth it. There will be time to fix the gain if it doesn't fix itself when you deliver. You had the tools to lose the weight to begin with. You didn't lose those tools. You just have to brush the dust off of them when it is time. And we can be cheerleaders to help *when it is time*

This mental struggle is one of my main reasons that new postops should wait on TTC if possible. Physical reasons aside. You are not mentally prepared to accept gaining weight you just took off last month. It will be more of a struggle.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents because you are right but I also think someone shouldn't beat themselves up if they do struggle with the emotions of it as well. We all know I was guilty of whining about the weight both pregnant and now PP.

I totally agree with you! Whining is totally fine, I do it all the time. I just think it's unrealisitic for some of these ladies who roll in and get upset that they gain, when in a healthy pregnancy, you absolutley should, you know? It is a total mind-eff, though. I really had no idea when I had the WLS 7 years ago that I would STILL be struggling with body image and weight issues.
