I'm 38 wks 2 days and had my doc apt today... He said I am 2 cm dilated and he did strip my membranes..

I feel so stupid as this is my 4th pregnancy, but what exactly happens when they strip your membranes?  That isn't popping your bag of water is it?  Sorry for my stupidity!.......LOL
