Post op VBAC??

I was just wondering if any of you have had a successful VBAC after WLS?

I had a VSG in Jan. of this year. I'm only 5 months out, so I won't be TTC for a while, but I'm curious. I had a c/s with DS in 2009 due to him being 9 pounds and my insulin resistence. I'd really love a shot at a VBAC when the time comes to expand our family. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I had a section with my twins in Feb 2009 due to pre-e.
My son was born in Feb 2011 and I had a wonderful VBAC with zero complications and overall it was a super easy and uneventful pregnancy.
He was 8 1/2 lbs and I had no problems delivering him, no rips or tears. My water broke the night before his due date and after 5 hours of labor he was born on his actual due date (which I thought was kinda cool).

My VSG had no effect on my uterus or vagina. lol

Awesome, thanks for sharing Courtney. I know that VBAC vary widely from women to women and from doctors too. I just hope I have a shot at it. We'd like to have a large family someday and with having a c/s right off the bat I'm afraid of being "locked into" c/s births for all of my kids.

Definitely find a VBAC-friendly OB.
My OB was my cheerleader throughout the whole pregnancy. Towards the end I was so ready to be DONE being pregnant I probably would have asked for an induction (and possible repeat section) if my OB was totally confident that I *could* do it.

Good luck with your WLS journey and future pregnancies! My post-op pregnancy was actually enjoyable compared to my pre-op pregnancy. It's amazing what a difference 130 lbs makes! lol

I think if i were in your shoes, i'd wanna try too.  But i am also a NICU nurse for about 10 years now and just saw my first mom and baby come through where the mom's uterus ruptured and they both bled and the baby ended up having to be taken anyways and ended up with oxygen depravation and seizures.  Not to freak you out.. like i said, 1st one i've seen in like 10 years,, but know there are many many many success stories. with VBAC too :). I think it also kinda depends on which way your uterus was cut the first time if it leaves it more susseptable.  But, if you got a good doc that wants to let you try,, i'd say go for it,, just be monitored closely, which they usually do anyways :)

One of the things that determines the safety of a vbac is if you internal incision was vertical or horizontal. This has nothing to do with your incision on the skin as they can be opposite. These days most incisions on the skin are horizontal but that does not mean if the internam one is. They can tell with an ultrasound what kind you had.

i NEVER knew that!!  I just always assumed that the scars would both be horizontal!!  I'm going to ask my OB (when I get pregnant again) to check...not that I can have a VBAC (I've already had 3 c/s's and 3 BIG babies....so  at this point I don't even have an interest in trying)....but that is interesting to know.

I know when I had my last c/s my OB mentioned that it was good we were taking the baby (he was born 36.5 weeks at 9lbs 2oz) early because my uterus looked "thin"......that scared me!!  He never mentioned "not" having anymore children....but hearing him call my uterus "thin"...made me think of my uterus rupturing - scary!!!

There is a TINY, I mean super tiny part of me wishes that I had this desire for a VBAC, but at my 8 week appointment I told them to go ahead and put me down for a c-section. I am having my tubes tied at the same time, but I must be one of the rare few that have zero issue with having a c-section and have really zero "real" desire to VBAC. My high risk ob did tell me that my scar tissue is pretty gnarly (his word not mine) so he'd proceed with caution for a VBAC on me, but the decision is made. I know a lot of successful VBAC mommies, and they all report fabulous experiences.

Thanks for the imput ladies!

I actually really enjoyed my c/s experience and had no issues at all. Because it was all planned and scheduled there was no panic it was all very smooth and fast. I was amazed myself. I'm just crazy and like to experience it all. I'm curious to know what a vaginal birth is like. I'm sure at some point I will be having another c/s I just don't like knowing that's my only option.

As far as a VBAC friendly OB.... I LOVE my doctor, I think she's amazing. She was very instrumental in my WLS process. She's actually also my PCP. However, because she herself had 3 c/s she tends to recommend c/s. That's probably the only things that I don't care for. But other than that I adore her. We'll see when the time comes and what we both thing would be a good fit. I think the bottom line is that the baby arrives saftely. But as long as everything looks good I'd like to have the opportunity to try.

I'll keep you posted on how things go for me.  I had a c section back in January of 2009 because my daughter got stuck after 36 hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing... ugh.  So, I really wen't through it all, lol.  Anyway, I got pregnant just after 6 months out from my VSG and I'm hoping for a VBAC in November.  Like you, I'd like a big family and don't want my c-section history to determine when I'm "done" having children.  My fingers are crossed (and toes) for a successful vaginal delivery!
