Breastfeeding????
HI,
I haven't posted here yet, but I have a question for those of you who have had RNY and then had a baby. I had my lap RNY in April 2008 and I am expecting my 1st, Nov 2nd. After lots of reading I plan on breastfeeding and was wondering if some of you would be willing to share your experience. Was it successful for you? Was it different if you did it before and after RNY? Just curious and trying to prepare myself. Thanks in advance for your input.

I had a VSG not RNY but I found breastfeeding to be easier this time around than with my twins (probably because there's only one baby this time! lol). Honestly breastfeeding is easier overall- the milk is always ready- and it's an amazing bonding experience with your baby.
Some days it's a struggle to get in enough calories, but my son is having no trouble gaining weight. He was 8.8 lbs at birth and was 17 lbs at his 3 month check-up. He's a BIG boy.
I am taking extra calcium sipplements now since I'm breastfeeding. Even non-WLS mamas can have issues with bone density/calcium depletion when breastfeeding so it's really important to stay on top of your calcium needs.
Good luck and grats on your pregnancy!

I had RNY and I am exclusivly breast feeding. I think the only thing I can say is make sure you drink more than enough water!
Also a side note, I am now working and I pump. I find that pumping is a lot easier for some reason before RNY I could not get enough milk while pumping, now there is not a problem!
