hi everyone!  I don't post here much, but I do have a couple questions.  I am currently 30 weeks pregnant with my second child POST-OP.  I'l be four years out on the fifteenth of this month (Yay!) My first prefgnancy was a dream, even though I got pregnant about 15 months out.  This pregnacy has been a bit more complicated.  I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes.  I don't know what to eat.  I am working with a nutritionist but I feel so lost.  I cannot tolerate meat/poultry/fish.  She gave me meal plans butI can't follow them or modify them enough to get all the carbs in I need a day.  My question is sisanyone go through gestational diabetes after theyhad WLS?  I'm worried that its going to turn into something more serious down the line.  My other question is does anyone have any meal or nack guide that can help me out? I feel like all Ive been eating lately has been eggs, almonds and cucumbers!

Thanks for your help

Hi there!  I haven't dealt with gestational diabetes, but you said that you can't tolerate meat/poultry/fish......what about string cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, milk and other dairy products to get some of your protein?  What about a natural peanut butter on a whole grain or whole wheat bread?  What about low carb protein bars or shakes?  Smoothies made with yogurt, fresh/frozen fruits, fruit juices and ice blended together...if you need it sweeter, add some sweetner.  Or smoothies made with protein powder (vanilla flavored.....I liked the designer whey kind), skim milk, fresh/frozen fruits and ice.  Sugar free carnation instant breakfast and nuts are another thing that come to mind.  Have you tried jerkey?  If you eat whole grain carbs, do they affect your blood sugars?  If not, you can get carbs by whole grain breads, rice, pasta, etc.  I hope I gave you some good suggestions, these are only things that came to the top of my head.  Good luck and just think, your very close to the end now and once you have the baby, the gestational diabetes should be gone as well!
