Liam's birthstory--Long

Hey guys!  Baby Liam finally made it out! I have had a very eventful few days. On the 31st my bestie called me saying her BP was skyhigh and she gained 7lbs in a week due to swelling. The dr wanted her at the hospital ASAP and she was to be inducted 3 weeks early for PIH. I spent the whole day with her and got to be there at her birth. She delivered a perfect little girl at 1am on 6/1.

From her hospital I went home and got my stuff. I showed up at the hospital at 330 ready to go! Unfortunately they were super busy so I didn't even get started on meds or iv til 7am. I was already having contractions on my own when I got to the hospital but they were weak and not very consistant. I got 2 rounds of Cervidal to soften things up before the Pit. I was about 4cm dilated 60-70% effaced.  Again they were busy so I didn't get checked as often as I would have liked so they were slow to giving me the meds to speed things along.

Finally about 5pm my Dr comes in to check me and decides it is time for the Pit and Epi. She feels my water is bulging and decides to break it once I had the epi in place. I really needed the Epi. I had been having ctx about 2-4 mins apart for hours and hours without meds and it was just wearing me down. It felt great to beable to relax again.

The Dr didn't like how the external monitors kept losing Liam's heartrate and they couldnt get it back without me holding the monitor down to keep it tracing. So he ended up with an internal monitor suction cupped to his head inside me. I was fine with that because it was one less thing keeping me from moving around. It also seemed like I was having contractions worse than was getting picked up on the monitor so I ended up with an internal monitor for that as well.

I wasn't progressing past 4cm though and Liam was not dropping down. The dr wondered if he was "sunny side up". They upped my Pit hoping to move things along. It was during this time I had a complication with the Epi. I had curled on my side semi sitting up. The pain returned to my back and stomach but my legs were numb still. My Epi was on a PCA pump so I could push for more as needed. Nothing was happening when I pushed the button. My mom got the anesthesiologist who checked me out and said my positioning was having the meds all go to my legs and not anywhere else. He put me flat on my back as he gave me an extra dose of meds. It fixed the problem but I can hardly push flat on my back. Not that I had the chance. I was STILL only 4 cm!!

The dr wanted to give me a small break and see what my body was doing without the Pit. She said if things didn't start moving in 30 mins then we were off to the OR. It was 930 pm at this point and I was ready to have him already. Liam was in no distress and I could have kept going but the Dr felt he was indeed sunny side up and suspected the shape of my pelvic bone was causing the problem. So when 10pm rolled around and I was still 4cm off we went to the OR. It was scary situation to me because I could hear them talking and feel them tugging but I couldn't see what was going on. Finally at 2239 Liam was out and I could hear him crying. It was the best sound ever. I got to kiss his forehead before he was off to be recovered in the nursery and I was stitched up and off to recover myself.

Liam has roomed with me all night/day and he is my perfect angel. Thanks for all your well wishes and thoughts
