3 weeks Pregnant, 1st baby, and have lots to learn!

Does anyone have any general/good advice for a pregnancy after having a RNY?   I just found out that I am 3 weeks pregnant and I had my gastric bypass surgery 2.5 years ago.  I know that making my nut goals are going to be even more important than ever, but I guess I was just hoping for some advice from some women who have gone through this too.  Lots of women have had advice for me, but none of them really understand what it is like to have had GBS... hence, i get a lot of "eat saltines, that always made me feel better", when I know that too many saltines make me feel gross on a normal day, lol.

Thank you in advance!

PS- I have a OB appt in a week in a half and they totally know all about my RNY, but any questions/tips for them I can go into the office armed with would totally help!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I was in the same boat as you a little while back :)

First of all, have you had any plastic surgery? If no, then you probably have a small apron of skin.... it makes the whole thing look TOTALLY different. If yes, then at least you will have the chance to look like a "normal pregnant" woman. I have the apron and I am due VERY shortly and I look like I just ate too much at the buffet. :) LOL But at least my skin and stretch marks are getting re-purposed :)

Secondly, and this does NOT go for every RNY patient, or any other that I even know of offhand.... When I got pregnant, my sugar allowance increased, greatly.  I can generally only eat 10-12g of sugar before dumping, but pregnant-- almost 30, Its weird! We lost our first son back in august 2010, and not even 1 week later my 10-12g of sugar allowance came back and I didn't know it, I was sick sick sick....

I am currently (for both pregnancies always) taken 4MG (1mg 4x day) of folic acid, 2 iron in the AM and 2 in the PM (4 daily), and 4 chewable gummy multi-vitamins. (again, 2 am- 2 pm) this takes the prenatals out of the picture for me. (which are nasty to chew up... (ick) ), and 2 calcium chews daily.

Anyhow.... Congrats and I wish you the very best :) You deserve it :) ♥

I just had my 'surprise" baby 2 months ago and I was 1 year and 8 months out of my RNY. I had lost 160 lbs and had just had my skin removal off my tummy in may and found out in the end of july I was 3 weeks pregnant. I have always had a real eating disorder since the surgery and was dx with anorexia despite still weighing 166lbs..I just don't eat..for days so it was tough for me to eat while pregnant but I think becuase I had a reason to eat it worked. I have always been anemicc and at 6 months pregnant they changed me from my regualr iron to a high potency iron called vitron-c 2x a day. I continued my monthly b-12 shots and took calcium daily along with my prenatal vitamin. I did look pregnant but not until the end. I gained a total of only 24lbs the whole pregnancy and most was fluid right at the end as I was spilling some protien in my urine. i was diabetic on only meds prior to pregnacy but the minute they got my blood test back that said +, they out me on insulin. It was no biggie for me. The baby was very healthy despite all the horror stories you will hear and she was petite and 6lbs 12 oz by c-section. I was back to my pre-preg weight pretty fast..i think within a month. But I have stopped loosing once again. i tried breast feeding..I had to supplement with formula and after 2 months I have totally stopped. Good luck to you adn you will be fine@!!!
