Many VSG (and DS) patients need B12 supplements because with the sleeved stomach, the outercurvature of the stomach is permanently removed, and that's the part that normally created the most Intrinsic Factor (IF). IF is needed for B12 absorption in the digestive tract, so without enough IF, many of us need to take B12 either sublingually or via injections (so B12 in a multi won't help much, if at all).
You can't get too much folic acid...it is water soluble, so whatever you don't need, your body will excrete in your urine. The only vitamins that you can get too much of is Vit A, E, D, and K. These are the fat souble vitamins, so your body stores them instead of excretes them. All others your body will just excrete the excess. Hope this helps!

Ditto on what the other girls said. Folic is one of those that you cannot take too much of. I take a 5mg folic pill daily, plus there is some in my prenatal and regular multi-vite as well.
It is absolutely not selfish to want to have a baby. However, most bari surgeons recommend waiting until you are 18-24 months post-op to TTC. WLS is a major shock to the body as is the rapid weight loss. If you haven't already spoke to your bari surgeon about TTC, I suggest you talk it over with him/her before you start. They understand your body better than any of us here on this board. My bari surgeon is definitely one of those wait 18-24 month surgeons. However he gave me the green light to TTC at 15 months because I turned 40, my OB wanted me to TTC as soon as possible, and I had been stable in my weight loss for about 3 months by that time and had lost 130 lbs.
Good luck to you!
