Hello All,

I am 2 years out from my RNY and my husband and I are thinking of starting to get pregnant. i am currently living in Ottawa , Ontario and am at a loss. I know my GP has NO CLUE about my RNY and I dont know what she will come up with. If anyone can give me suggestions as to where to start and if I will need to see a specialist what not.

You might consider talking to your surgeon to see if they have any information to pass to your GP or OB/GYN.  Really though, just go get pregnant...then proceed as 'normal' pregnancies.  The only big difference is that you will need to monitor your labs during pregnancy - like every 1-2 months - to make sure that nothing's falling out of whack...and if it is, then you would need to adjust your vits to compensate.  Also...if they ask for the gestational diabetes test during pregnancy, there are alternatives to drinking the syrup...and it's recommended to ask (demand) one of the alternatives, which can include fasting, doing blood work, going to eat, and doing more blood work.  Someone else on here can give more info on that.

Good luck!  Hope to see your BFP coming your way soon!

The only problem with speaking to my surgeon is that I had surgery 2 years ago at Barix and its over 9hrs away... Im also going to google everything I should know and bring it all to my gp when we get pregnant. which isnt quite yet but soon.

Can you call them? Maybe they can refer you to some place local to have your labs done.

There are lots of RNY mamas on this board who went on to have beautiful post-WLS babies. Good luck!

I went to my normal OB doctor told him I had RNY he keep track of vitamin levels and keep good eye on babies.I was only referred over to a specialist because I was having twins.Your normal OB should work just fine.

Food en take and vitamins is what you need to watch and get enough of and fluids as well.

May my Angles rest in peace.....
