Update on Jaelyn
This is for those not on my Facebook (feel free to add me, I am an addict and update it often!)
Jaelyn was starting to show some progress yesterday with her feedings, but they mentioned to me they were doing a "standard brain ultrasound" just to make sure all was well. Now I have had two babies in this same NICU prior, and knew it wasn't standard but I trusted them. Well, they didn't want me to worry.
Jaelyn does have a grade 4 brain bleed, on the right side of her brain. We are told it is not life threatening, but she will have some complications. They are doing an MRI to confirm the clot is only area affected and there are no other bleeds. If she continues to absorb the fluid on her own, she will avoid surgery and will just take a month or so to heal in the NICU. If she doesn't, she will need a shunt in to drain the fluid.
He explained to us that on a scale of 1 to 10 a one is a child that is a little clumsy and has focus issues. A ten would be completely non-functioning. He is anticipating Jaelyn to be about a 5. He did state that he and the radiologist disagree on the severity and he think its is more severe, the radiologist thinks its more moderate. Either way w are to prepare ourselves for some challenges ahead.
Any and all prayers are welcomed, and appreciated.
Thank you all

I'm sorry you have to go through this. Praying for you and Jaelyn. God Bless!
I am just quoting the doc, my head isn't as nice as my typing at the moment. They said the first year of life will give us a good idea how severe it could be. He believes she will likely have some form of Cerebral Palsy, butshe may not. It's such a wait and see game. I was just relieved when he said it isn't life threatening, and as of right now surgery isn't a MUST. I trust this neonatologist with my everything and I appreciate his honesty. Some docs may have sugar coated this all until we have more solid answers.
