It has been almost 1 week since the arrival of baby Ryan. He was born early (I was about 37 weeks along). I woke up at 3am on May 13th to pee as I had been for the past several weeks. As I stood up, water came gushing out. I knew this was it since I was told baby would have to be delivered within 24 hours if water broke.
Thankfully, I had most everything ready to go and off we went to the hospital. When we got there at 4am I was no where near dilated or thinning so they started me on pitocin right away. This did not do much so the Dr. stretched my cervix to get things moving faster. This was about 12noon. Within minutes of doing this, the contractions started to come closer and were much more painful. Time for the pain meds. Once I got my epidural, I went from 3 cm to 10 cm then pushed for 30 minutes or so. He was born at 5:31pm.
The ultrasound we had taken just 2 days earlier estimated him to be about 6.3 lbs, but he was no where near this weight. He weighed in at 5 lbs 4 oz (tiny little man). He didn't cry, but was very alert. He took to my breast right away.
I spent 2 nights in the hospital because they wanted to make sure he didn't lose too much weight.
