Need some more help & info please
I am 12 weeks pregnant with twins just over 11 months post op. My OB has never had a RNY patient. But he is great and willing to listen. My surgeon isnt much help and just kinda disapeared from the picture after my surgery. So no help there.
I am losing weight rapidly sense being pregnant. I have lost 30lbs in the last month. I know the key is to stay out of ketosis. Is eating a few carbs a day enough to do that?
I need to know what labs I should have my OB order and how often. How many vitamins a day should I be taking. I havent been able to take them very often so far because I am constantly nauseated.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Congrats on the twins. I am not RNY but just wanted to welcome you. 30lbs in a single month seems like a big amount to me! Do you have Zofran for the MS? If not I would ask for it stat. My vitamins made me feel sick as well so I started taking them right before sleep. It can help. I know some RNY girls didn't have to change up their vitamins much just make sure you are getting the folic acid from one of them. I'd have your OB check your iron and b12 lvls.
I am sure one of the other girls will pop in and give you more RNY specific info as well. I hope the nausea passes soon for you!

This link will give you a great deal of info on pregnancy after RNY. She truly knows her stuff. http://wlsvitagarten.com/2010/06/08/suggested-pregnancy-labs/
In the meantime, I would highly suggest 2 multivitamins (I take Centrum Silver), calcium citrate with vit D, B12, and iron everyday until you get labs done to see where you stand. Good luck to you.

Hi, congrats on your pregnancy and twins! I'm over 7 years post-op RNY. Daily I take 1 complete multi-vitamin, folic acid, sublingual B12, D3, and calcium citrate and take an iron vitamin every other day. I had all my vitamin levels drawn (6 vials of blood) in May and found my iron was on the high side and was told to take every other day opposed to once a day....all my other levels were in check! I plan to have my levels drawn 2 more times during my pregnancy. But, it is recommended that you take 2 multi-vitamins a day. The best thing to do is have all your vitamin levels checked and make adjustments as needed. The above mentioned vitamins should probably be the minimum that you take. Some women get really low on their iron, vitamin D and B-12. Just so you know, you can't overdose on B-12 and it helps with energy! Also, don't take your calcium and iron together as they wash each other out! Here is the list of everything they tested for on my last draw ordered by my baratric surgeon (Barix Clinic):
>CBC >Glucose >Triglycerides >Alk Phos >TIBC >Electrolytes >Calcium >T. Billi
>AST >Serum Folate >BUN >Magnesium >T. Protein >ALT >Vitamin B12 >Creatinine >Cholesterol >HDL/LDL >Albumin >Serum Iron >Vitamin A >Vitamin D
>B-1 >B-6 >Zinc
Best of luck!
