Baby Jaelyn
Well I am updating from my laptop via nesting room. The hospital allows NICU moms to stay in house as long as they have room, to be lose to baby. But man oh man, baby blues are kicking my rear end (not a surprise, right Chelle? lol) I have a call in for something to help, I should have known to ask before I got discharged that it would happen.
Jaelyn was doin amazingly well, and was breastfeeding every feeding. Then last night she just started refusing to eat. She would latch, then sit there and go back to sleep. She wont take from bottle, beast milk or formula. She prefers mommy, which is great but with her down to 4 pounds 4 oz, she needs to start gaining and eating! So they went ahead and put in the NG tube. The plan is for me to attempt to breastfeed at start, then whether she takes or not start the feeding tube. They think that she just got ahead of herself, and did too much too soon. They keep telling me to keep in mind she isn't sick, and this isnt a set back since she was ahead of the game anyway.
I will probably be going home tonight to be with kids, and to get some rest. It was recommended for my physical and mental well being, as well as Jaelyn's. I live 15-20 minutes away, so I am not TOO far. Hadest part is not being clear to drive for anothe week.
Sorry for typos, small keyboard and sore belly don't make for easy updates lol Thank you all for all of your support and kind words. I have another picture here, but feel free to add me on Facebook for more updates and photos :)

She will do great my smaller twin Kinzy had issues eating also. She went from 4 11 to 4 1 and they wanted to tube her. We asked what else we could try too. They put her on a high calorie formula and that helped a lot. We also did not give her more than 5 minutes too breastfeed cause it burns calories too fast She got to come home 3 days later all better it will be great though. congrats she looks awesome!

Thank you so much for sharing that. I have gone through this with other kids but the fresh reminder is so helpful!! I would have tried to adding calories to breastmilk, or high cal formula but she wasn't sucking at all, breast or bottle. She went from fully latching and emptying me, to latching and sleeping. So I figure this will give her a day to rest, and then we can try to reintroduce tomorrow. Your little girl has lost about what mine has so far. Will have to call tonight to get her weight to see if it was a better day. They warned me it may not be until tomorrow we see results from today
Thats what Kinzy did also. :) she would drink well off me then fall asleep after about 2 minutes lol. Got frustrating. She would not suck the bottle either so we ended up having to massage under her chin to get her to suck a little. She was taking in 30 ml and that was taking 30 minutes. So we limited her time and raised her to neosure formula which made a huge difference. I did not let her breastfeed but a few minutes then would finish with the bottle so she would have both and it helped so much :) It took a couple days but she is doing great now. Bout 6 pounds at 6 weeks :)

Oh, momma. I am thinking lots of positive thoughts for you and I just KNOW everything is going to be fine. Try to bear in mind that she is in the best possible hands and you're doing a great job! Please try to rest as much as you can ... and don't be afraid to ask for help! It might soubd harsh, but is there anyone who can take the older ones for sleepovers? I know its a school night and only Sunday, but it might really help for them to go hang with friends or relatives for a night, and it will give you a break. Thinking of you!
