Funny you should ask this.... I just blogged about my current experiences here at 2 years post RNY. I know you're asking for those who were pregnant before they were 2 years post-op, but thought I'd pass along my link to ya anyway.

I've been having complications - nothing so serious that I've been bedridden or anything like that - just a lot of un-fun stuff. Low Blood Sugar, Nausea, Throwing Up, Intestinal Blockages, Trouble Eating Enough .... blah blah blah.  (I"m at 23 weeks right now, so I can just about ***** about sunshine and lollipops too LOL). Anywhoo, what happens to one of us is not necessarily what will happen to another of us - just as with any pregnancy - every pregnancy is different (pre or post rny). This is just an account of my journey so far.

And I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I'm only 10 weeks along, so I'm no pregnancy expert, but at 18 months post-op, I have absolutely no problems. I got labs drawn as soon as I got my BFP and all of my levels are perfect. I can eat more than enough to get the calories I need. I've already gained 10 lbs, so weight gain obviously won't be a problem. I do get reactive hypoglycemia, but as long as I watch my sugar intake, it's not a problem. I've only had a few bouts of nausea with dry heaves, but I don't vomit, so morning sickness is not even an issue.

I got pregnant with my daughter (shes now 10 months old) at 9 months post op rny. (we were given the go ahead by my primary, ob and surgeon).  I had several problems with that pregnancy. Started about 12 weeks, maybe a little earlier, Ill have to read my journal to be exactly sure, but I was having serious fainting because of lack of calories. (prob a combo of both lack of calories and low BP) when I got into the second trimester I was fine, I was able to eat a little more and things were great. Until I started getting bigger.....Once my belly started to "pop" I had some SERIOUS round ligament pain, not a common amount from what the drs were explaining to me, I had scar tissue from my RNY that was being pulled in different directions. Not to mention the muscle loss from lack of nutrtion prior to getting pregnant made me very week. I did have problems getting enough fluid so I would CONSTANTLY be going into preterm labor.  I tried very hard to get 64+ oz a day, sometimes it just didnt happen!! I was on trebutaline from 25 weeks until I delivered at 37+4. All in all, I delievered a healthy baby 6lbs 6ozs and 19 inches long.

Now im in my second post op pregnancy.  I eat like a cow (not recommended) and luckily I am not gaining, the baby is healthy!!  Growing I am 14 weeks, and have had NO complications. WOOT! So I truley believe the longer you wait the easier it will be. Not that I would change a thing about my daughter!!  I would do it all over the same if given the option. I just think its easier this time around.
