birthcontrol pills after rny didnt work and now pregnant???

ok so how many people are out there that had the rny and was taking some type of birthcontrol pill after and OOOPS!!! due to the malabsorption they now have a bundel of joy??????

It seems to be something that is lacking in the post op education.. at least from what I see on this board. Or maybe it gets glossed over in the joy of finally having the surgery and gets forgotten.

happened to me 5 months after my RNY.  I am now 36 weeks pregnant.

thanxs you two for your posts im sure there are plenty more people out there just like you guys, just out of curiosity what bc pill were you taking so this way i know to stay away?

I didn't have the RNY but I was using condoms and spermacide. ::Shrugs:: I blame him and user malfunction.

I can't remember the brand, but we also used a condom.  You could do something other than bc pills; but I've heard of people getting pregnant even with that thing.... what's it called IUD?

I got pregnant 5 months out with twins using condoms...

You can add me to the count! I was 5 months post-op and on oral birth control when I got pregnant. I was blind sided and didnt find out untl January. I had been told that there was absolutely NO way I would ever have any more children several years ago...........the birth control was "simply" to help regulate my cycle.

On Microgestin Fe and found out I was pregnant at 6 months out.  Now I'm 28 weeks preggers.  The brand really doesn't matter...steer clear of all oral BC post-op.  This was even a concern I had pre-op...talked to the surgeon specifically about it, and was told that oral BC is just as effective post-RNY.  WRONG!!!  LOL 

I was about a year out.  My dr knew I was on BC pills and never said anything about them and I just figured since they seemed to be working, it was no big deal.    Apparently, I was wrong.  I was told that with the massive weightloss and the malabsorption, that is why I got pregnant.  I would stay away from any kind of birth control pill and go with something else.
