Folic Acid?

Can we take Folic Acid after the Sleeve Surgery? I know there is some in my multi-vitamin but will it hurt to take another suppliment? Also do you recommend a certain brand at all?

As far as I know, no there's no prob w/taking Folic after any WLS.  So you should be good there.  Ask your OB how much Folic they suggest you take.  The most you can get in stores over the counter is 800mcg dosage.  I'm 40 and my OB wanted me to bulk up on folic.  She told me to find at least 4mg and take those.  I found a 5mg dosage online at brandvitamindiscounters.com.  I'm taking the Ortho Molecular Products folic acid w/5mg folic and 200 mcg B12 (bonus!)

Really any brand is good for folic acid.  Just ask your OB how much they suggest you take. :-)  And good luck!

The hematologist said to me, you can't overdose on Folic Acid. It is not like some vitamins that if you have too much can cause issues to your organs or babies. So, I wouldn't worry about taking too much. If you are not sure, ask your surgeon about what you can/can't absorb. Additionally, there is usually 800 to 1000 in a prenatal. You can always have your level folic acid level check to see if you are ok. 

Normally, if you are anemic your folic acid will be low as well.

If you are going to double up on folice acid.. or any vitamin.. Take one in the morning and one before bed. If just take it all at once you can't absorb it all and you end up just peeing it all out. You can normally also get a script for prenatals at your OB that can be covered by insurance.
