One year out - no period.

I am one year out and starting to plan for pregnancy (six or eight months from now). The problem is that I have not have my period since the last week in November. Let me just say this from the start, there is ZERO possibility that I am pregnant. ZERO.

I think that it may be because I have lost so much weight so quickly but I don't know. I run a 5k four to five times a week. I eat well and my weight has been the same since January - 110 lbs or so (Im only five foot even, so this is a good weight for me). I dont feel like I am too thin. My partner says "you know gymnists that exercise all the time sometimes dont have a period because they are so thin". I am no where near being as active as a gymnist.

I keep putting of making my OB appointment because taking time off work is a pain in the rear. Its to a point where I need to do it though.

Has anyone else gone this long without their period? what happened? did it eventually just show up? ack! I never thought i would WANT to have my period.

Sorry you are experiencing an irregular cycle. It sucks! What were your cycles like before WLS? Were you ever diagnosed with a condition like PCOS?
I have PCOS myself and have seen some big improvements since losing over 100 pounds, but still have irregular cycles which is frustrating and disheartening. Hopefully whatever is causing your missed cycles is an easy fix! Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I've never been diagnosed with PCOS. I have had irregular periods in the past, but about a year before surgery and then immediately following surgery they became regular like clockwork (not a 28 days cycle..... 36 days or so, but regular none the less).

I will have to get in to see my OB.... :( Hopefully she can figure something out :)

I have heard before that some runners do have a hard time getting pregnant, not sure how truthful that is. Talk to your doctor, that is your best bet.  Usually when you lose weight fast, you become really fertile, hence alot of the preggo's on here lol.

Your little one is due one day after my birthday! :)

thank you for responding to my post. I dont know about the running thing,... I dont consider myself a hard runner - its probably more like a jog (10.25 min miles), but I do run (jog) five days a week and about three miles each run.

I had heard the same thing, that people who lost weight fast had to be super careful to NOT become pregnant too soon and that they had a higher chance of pregnancy (than before).

ACK!

Off to the OB i will have to go, no doubt.

Hey Righty... we're neighbors!  I'm down  in San Jose.  Anywho... yeah... go to your OB stat.  They will run some tests and more than likely put you on provera which will induce your period.  Obviously let them know that you are trying to get pregnant so they'll also probably have you start using OPK's (ovulation predictor kits) after you have your period to see if you are actually ovulating.  Don't worry... if you're not, they can help with that too.

BTW... my wife and I are TTC now (I'll be carrying.)  In fact... I gotta go to my fertility doc in a couple mins.  Ciao!  PM me if you'd like to chat sometime.  Keep us posted

Howdy neighbor!

Yep, definately need to make that appointment with my OB. Thats on the agenda right after we move (arrrggghhh I hate moving!) this weekend.

Although we are not TTC right now (probably another 8 months) I will definately let them know that its in the plans. I've already got some OPK's on hand for when I need to start testing that :)

YAY for you TTC! Good luck with your appointment, keep me posted! I would like to add you as a friend, if that is alright.

Yes, I have gone this long without a period, both before and after my WLS. I assumed that once I was at a healthy ideal weight it would come back but it did not. I took BCP to regulate it but of course that was not an option when TTC. Anyhow, long story short I have PCOS so that was my issue. My sister who is thin and very active however did have same issue and no PCOS. And she was not a gymnast, probably at our about the same level of activity you do a week. She was told weight changes, activity/exercise, etc can mess with your hormonal balance in the body. I definitely think you should go to the doctor and get a work up.
