4 month old Teething? Advice Please.
My daughter just turned 4 months old but in the past week her gums have looked swollen and some what white at times. She is gumming everything and chewing on her fingers like crazy. She's also drooling a lot. She gets fussy more often but usually just in the evenings. I don't see any tooth buds yet but I'm still not so sure it's teething? Is this normal for a baby who just turned 4 months old to already be teething? How long can this go on until an actual tooth appears? Poor baby, I feel so bad. I am putting baby Oragel on her gums and there was one time where she wouldn't stop screaming so I gave her infant ibuprofen. It seemed to help but I don't want to give her medicine like Tylenol and ibuprofen all of the time so what else can I give her that is more natural? My son never complained when he was teething. In fact I didn't even know he was teething until I found his first tooth at 6-7 months old! I never once even gave him baby Oragel because he was so calm about his teething and never cried with it. My daughter, however, is having a very hard time with it. Any advice please would be appreciated.

I took my daughter in today to see her Pediatrician because I kind of got freaked out by the last poster on here and she does NOT have hand, foot, mouth disease or also called, coxsackie virus. She is teething and all of her symptoms are completely normal. I also asked if it was not okay for her to have Infant Ibuprofen and he said that it is safe to give to a 4 month old so as along it is not given on a regular basis. He's the type of Pediatrician tat doesn't even like to tell the Parents of his patients to give them Tylenol before immunizations. It's called Pedia Motrin, and it is suggested to not give to babies under 6 months of age unless directed by a Pediatrician. It does help with swelling and inflamation and is less toxic to the liver than Tylenol. I have only given it to her one time ever and I did get the correct dosage from her Pediatrician's office before I gave it to her. I am going to take her Pediatrician's suggestions first and try cold rags and teething gel. They did recall the teething tablets but they now have the teething gel made by the same company that I may try if she continues to have discomfort.
Abigail was teething constantly from 4 months onward. She now has her four front teeth at 9 months and is still teething lol. The only thing she seemed to really love was cold damp rags to chew on and some of the teething rings you can chill or freeze. Tylenol or Ibuprofen helps on the really bad days. It's all completely normal :)

I am pretty sure Lorelai started teething at 4 months. Her first tooth didn't appear until 6 months and teething has been pretty rough on her. I give her tylenol at night to help her sleep, but rarely during the day. I used Hyland's teething gel and it seemed to work at that age, but she hates it and baby orajel now. She has 5 teeth now at 9.5 months and I'm pretty sure she's working on 6, 7 & 8 all at once. Good luck! The cold water soaked rags are her favorite!

I was gonna say exactly what your Dr. said. Frozen/cold wash rags are great & alternating Tylenol/Motrin. I only give Motrin @ bedtime because it lasts longer than Tylenol. AND, yes, Hylands makes a teething gel with exactly the same ingredients as the tablets (actually more potent which is strange because you can't very well regulate the "dose" of a gel as opposed to 1-2 tablets). I prefer these above & beyond the "numbing gels". I feel like it helps calm/sooth baby rather than just numb the gums. I was lucky to have gotten 2 bottles of teething tablets @ a shower before they were recalled. So, I still have a few on hand, but I'll definitely be picking up some gel.
