How did you pick your OB GYN?
Hi there,
I've been pretty quiet on this board mainly watching for a few weeks until today when I got my BFP! I'm due 12/26 and am a new mommy to be. How did you pick your OB GYN? I went to one in my network today, and I felt pretty comfortable with him and felt that he was thorough, comforting, and gave me a lot of information. Is there something else I should be looking for... some magic spark? Why do some people pick midwives over MDs? Do women shop around visiting different OB GYNs before they make their final choice? I feel like I have so much to learn... oyy!
Any advice would be great. I look forward to getting to know all of you on the boards and would LOVE some supportive & understanding baking mama friends and post-preg friends too!
Thanks!
-Juanita

Congrats!
I knew what hospital I wanted for delivery so I looked at the hospital's list of OB's and called down the list..picking females first. (personal choice) Who ever could see me fastest was the one I ended up with. She also happened to be the Ob for a coworker who just delivered a few months before. Coworker gavea great review.
If you liked the OB I see no reason to shop around.

my first ob was my gynocoligiest so i already knew him and knew he had exsperince with wls patients. i unfortinatly ended up moving when i was 8 months pregnant so had to find a new doctor so my mom went shoping around and found the doctor who delivered my little girl. it was crazy b/c i only met her twice before i was on an operating table delivering my little girl but she has been a great carying doctor and i couldn't ask for anything better. if you like the doctor you found and feel comfortable with him stay with him no need to shop around. congrats on the bfp heres to a happy healthy 9 months.
Hi Juanita,
Congratulations on you BFP! Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months!
I think alot of expecting moms chose first by convenience and second by gut! If you arent comfortable with your OB or Midwife you really shouldnt stick with their practice. There is alot going on during a pregnancy and it's important that a good rapport and strong communication.
I was very lucky to have met a member here at OH that was able to recommend a fantastic OB. He obviously had experience with wls patients, that was a big bonus to me. The fact that he has a wonderful bed-side manner was the icing on the cake. I can bombard him with a ton of questions and I never feel rushed and if I dont understand an answer he gladly approaches it from another angle.

I asked around to some friends who I knew where military and then checked out their website. I just saw my doctor for the first time on Tuesday and after going over history and everything she still seems positive about my pregnancy and says they have had plenty of WLS patients so it was not forgien to them! I would say as long as you feel comfortable and they are meeting your concerns then stay with them!
Congrats on your pregnancyu
I am an HCA employee (Hosp corp of America) therefore I must use an HCA facility to get maximum insurance benefits. When I found out I was expecting I didnt even have a gyno, I just used my PCP for well women checks and go see my WLS surgeon every year for a check up. When we found out, my husband got on the ins website and found a list of OB DRs who deliver at the nearest HCA hospital. He googled through the list and found one with the best reviews, her webiste also says she works with high risk moms....that's me due to age.
I got lucky...I love the Dr and her staff is great. The office is adjacent to the hosp and office and hosp are within five minutes of our home. ( A miracle in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex)
Online reviews have been a lfesaver for us. Having said that all reviews won't be great, we just read through to check if the overall opinion of the facility or DR is favorable.
Good luck finding a DR, it's been so great having an awesome relationship with my OB and her staff.
