Hello im new here .. Im scheduled to have WLS and was wondering if there are any females that have had major problems getting prego before WLS and after WLS they were able to get prego.. how does that work .. I mean with eating the small amounts of food your allowed after surgery and still being able to provide all the nutrients your baby needs.. has anyone but their weight back on after having baby?  thanks in advance

Well my hubby and I tried for six years and nothing.I had my surgery January 2009 waited 18 months got an OK in June of 2010 stop taking last birth control in July and November 1st was my last period so only took me four months after doctors gave me OK.I'm having twin girls I was eating enough for me and one. When you hit 18 months to two years you take in 1600 to 1800 calories a day which is enough but with me having the twins I have to eat every two hours or I get really sick.Doctors wanted me to add another 300 calories but there is no way.Babies are up high and hurts now when I eat.

As for the weight at the end I dint know yet so I shall see.

Congrats to you on your journey!

May my Angles rest in peace.....

Well talk with your doctor about it.Mine said wait at least a year but would rather if I waited 18 to 19 months and I did.My lowest weight was 118 to small i lost all that almost in the first 9 months when I had gone into doctors they ask me if I had added carbs and I hadn't the doctor said no more working out and add some carbs tell I could hit 125 and stay.I was going back and forth between 122 and 128 which was totally fine with me I thought I would  only hit 150 were doctor wanted me to be my goal was 140.As of right now I have gained 30 pounds but all baby 15 pounds per each and I have two water bags and two placentas Dr said I'm looking at about 45 to 55 pound weight gain.If I lose all great but I have some weight to work with i still would be very happy at 140 but my goal is to be 130.I was 127 when I got pregnant.

I had surgery October 2009.  Before that, I had tried to have another child (had one in 1999) for about 7 years and nothing was happening.  After I divorced my ex and moved away, I met my current fiance.  We did nothing to prevent but it never happened.  I decided to have surgery and went from 480 to 250 in about a year.  My surgeon gave me the go ahead to start trying February 2011.  But I got pregnant in October while being on birth control pills.  So with that being said, please do not rely just on birth control pills.  My surgeon never said anything about not using just them and I assumed since I had used them for about a year without getting pregnant, it would be ok but I was wrong.  I was told with the massive amount of weight I had lost and with the malabsorption, that is probably why I got pregnant.

I would just advise that you listen to what your surgeon tells you about how long to wait to get pregnant.  It really is not easy for me to get in everything that I am supposed to.  I am able to eat much more than before I was pregnant but I have to basically eat constantly.  I have not gained any weight with this pregnancy yet.  I started at 251 and weighed in at 245 on thursday at my appointment.  I had gotten down to 239 during this pregnancy but have started to put some of it back on but am still at a loss.  I am having another ultrasound today because my doctor wants to make sure that the baby is growing well because of the surgery.

I wish you good luck with your surgery!!

Welcome to the board! It's a great place to be. Drama free (for the most part) and full of information. A lot of nice ladies.
Before my surgery we never really tried because I knew I needed to be healthy to carry a baby.
June 12 2009 I had my lapband surgery (one of the best decisions of my life) and was taking birth control but was terrible at remembering to take it. So after my surgery I stopped taking my birth control. I was on it for 10 years and just got tired of it. Risky move I know. We started using the pull and pray method. It seemed to work pretty good. We made plans to go visit my mom and her boyfriend in August of 2010 out in California for a week vacation and wanted to have grand time before trying to concieve. So when we came back from vacation I had an appt with my surgeon he said he is fine with us starting to try.
We started trying in september and on December 5 I went to have a hernia repaired and they tested my urine and I was pregnant! So didn't take very long.
I miscarried at the end of January  but we are actively trying again. I just ovulated and waiting my 2 weeks to see if I start or not.
Good Luck and happy trying :-)

Hi there! Welcome to the board! I had my RNY bypass in January of 2007, so I'm 4 years post op now. I was married at the time and my husband and I didn't really try to get pregnant, but we didn't protect against it either.  I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18 years old. We were together almost 8 years and never had any success. In October of 2008, we seperated and ended up divorcing. Well, I found out that in April of that year, he in fact had gotten his little girly toy preggo. So, this meant the problem was all me.

I met my current husband when he was in Iraq and moved to Texas in 2008 to be with him. He has 3 children from his previous marriage (the oldest isn't biologically his tho), so I knew he was capable as well. My OB put me on a few rounds of Metformin to try to get my periods under control as I would go 6-8 months without one. We moved from TX to SC, and I lost my insurance. In June of 2010, I was due to take a round of birth control to bring on my period. Since it had been 3 months, I took a preg test and got a BFN. Went through my cycle of pills and when they were gone I went a week with no period. I started believing something was seriously wrong with me and feared the worst. My husband and best friend insisted I was pregnant and I swore I wasn't. How could that be possible? After my surgery, I thought it might be easier, but I still have my PCOS and it's still as strong as before. We went 2 years with not using any form of protection or birth control and on July 12th I tested and- BFP!!!! :O

I now am the proud Mommy of a 7 week old little boy! I had a very easy pregnancy- no morning sickness or problems. I ended up having a C-section after 29 hours of labor, but anything is possible!! My little guy is healthy and thriving and I'm doing terrific also! I've lost 20 something pounds and have 15-20 more to go before my pre preggo weight (gained 37lbs) and would like to loose an extra 35 on top of that!

Best of luck with your surgery and your weight loss journey! It's quite a ride and one I'm so glad I took!!
