Is it just as easy to lose the weight after baby?
Hello ladies!
I am new to OH and have some questions!
I am planning to have VSG in March of 2012. I have done quite a bit of research, and this is the route that I have chosen to take! I already have 2 children, ages 6 & 8, and want 2 more. I got remarried last May, started school, and I'm ready to start over and have more kiddos :-) The only problem is that I am not ovulating because of my weight. I have yo-yo dieted over the last 6 years, and keep gaining back all of my weight, plus some. Ready for this change!
I know that doctors advise that you wait at least a year after surgery before conceiving. For those of you that lost all of your weight and then got pregnant, how were your pregnancies? Was it difficult to get all of your recommended calories in? What about after the baby is born? Did you lose all of your weight easily? Did you continue to eat a tiny bit at every meal, like before you got pregnant (or maybe you did this during your pregnancy too?)?
Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the board! It's great that your thinking ahead! Many woman have different experiences with food and gaining and loosing weight after surgery. I had RNY over 7 years ago and had my 3rd child post-op in 2008 and now pregnant with my 4th child (2nd post-op). I gained around 30 pounds with my last pregnancy and lost all but 7-10lbs by my 6 week check-up. I gained another 10lbs within 1.5 years until I decided to do something about it and began to watch my food better....get rid of the bad stuff....drink more water and then began to put protein 1st and started to exercise and lost the 20lbs within 4 months! I don't have a hard time getting enough food and calories in while pregnant and find I can eat way more during pregnancy! I don't know much about VSG and getting pregnant around a year afterwards....so your story could be completely different than mine!
Best of luck to you!
Best of luck to you!

I am probably a very different scenerio..I have a real hard time eating...I got pregnant unexpect. and only gained about 22 lbs..I just delivered via c-section 2 weeks ago and have already gotten to my prepregnancy weight... In my case, NO. I gained about 50 pounds with my pregnancy, and have yet to lose even one pound. I have the lap-band, and I had to have some fluid taken out when I was pregnant, and am in the process of getting it filled back up to my "sweet spot" again. So, I eat way more than I should, because I always feel hungry. Also, since I had a c-section, I really haven't been able to exercise at all. I used to run and go to the gym all the time. My baby is 11 weeks old now. I know it's going to take a long time to lose the weight, but it SUCKS for now.

Pretty much this. I gained 50 and only lost 20. I still have restriction but I cannot seem to get it off. it is very hard.

I got pregnant with my first child 9 months post op. (this is NOT recommended.) I had LOTS of trouble keeping weight ON. I went from pre preg weight of 190 to a drop of about 178 then back up to 212 when I delivered. by my 6 week check up after my c-section I was back to 190.
This is my second pregnancy (yeah quick I know my first baby was born July 2010) and I started around 195 (why i tend to go up and down i have no idea!) I am currently 205 @ almost 11 weeks. I have held steady at this weight for the last 9 weeks. (i check every monday religiously!)
With my first pregnancy, i had trouble getting enough calories. this time around, I seem to be having no issues. I am completely positive its because my body is READY to sustain me and the fetus. With my daughter, it was still kinda shell shocked. LOL
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE follow your doctors advice. Good luck!! Trust me, the benefits are so worth it!

I had my son 7 weeks ago, gained a total of about 37lbs throughout. I started at 185 and got up to 221 (my last weigh in before I had him). This morning I was 197. The scale has bounced for about the last 3 weeks between 194-198. I feel like these last 12-17lbs are going to be a royal pain to get off. I just got cleared to exercise regularly last Friday. I will say I haven't gotten in to a routine just yet or gotten my eating all strapped down because we're in the process of moving in another 10 days. so once we get to our new home and get situated I plan to get on the South Beach diet and get into a workout schedule...my mom just bought a Nordic treadmill for herself for Christmas and has an eliptical, so I plan on being there often...esp since her house comes with a built in babysitter ;)
For about 4 weeks after my C-section, I had literally NO appetite! There are still days when I look at the clock and it's already after lunch and I realize I haven't eaten. I have noticed that before pregnancy I think I had a lot more room to eat bigger portions, but that has shrunk quite a bit and I'm 4 years post RNY.

I had the gastric bypass..the RNY. it was laproscopic...no complications except the not being able to eat. For instance, yesterday I ate NOTHING..I tried and just couldn't do it. I know it is all in my head but it isn't easy. But I am not the norm. My friend had the same surgery a month after me adn she is doing great and I would do it again a thousand times!!
