Circumcision?
As a mother of an INTACT boy, I too urge you to READ about circumcision.
It's painful and completely unnessesary. It is an ELECTIVE cosmetic surgery on a newborn baby that comes wih many surgical risks.
If you still want cosmetic surgery on your baby, then YES, you should pay for it, NOT your insurance.

my son's biological father was uncir****ized, he wished that his mother would have had him cir****ized. my husband was uncir****ized until age 11 not a fun thing to go thru at that age. my son is cir****ized. my personal decision. even if i had to pay for it, i would have but it IS a preference. You have to pull the foreskin back to clean it, but other than that you clean it like the rest of the body. They dont look that much different when erect but when flaccid, personally an uncir****ized penis is not very attractive. just my personal opionion. but with circumcision they do lose some sensitivity. GL with your savings for it. Thankfully my insurance covers it but if i was to have another boy and it wasnt covered, I would pay out of pocket for it.
actually with a baby, you DO NOT pull the foreskin back to clean it. A newborn's foreskin is attached to the head of the penis in a similar way your fingernail is attached to your finger. Pull off your fingernail and tell me it doesn't hurt... ouch.
It's not until the child is older that the foreskin can be retracted without causing pain, and by then the child will be old enough to clean himself.
hundreds of infant boys die from circumcision related problems each year. That wasn't a risk I wanted to take to have a cosmetic proceedure done on my newborn.

Yea, and actually a great deal of the older men/boys who have to be circumcised due to "problems" is because at a young age the foreskin was forcably retracted and it caused scar tissue and adhesions that then produced the problems. If people really learned what is needed to clean an intact penis then you probably wouldn't hear about all these so called "problems." (Not to say that there aren't any but the majority can be prevented.)
I agree with you... my boys are not cir****ized... there father is not and felt very stongly about his sons not having it done... My dad was giving me a hard time about it. like you said you dont touch the forskin to clean it as a baby cuz it is attached. I told my husband when they get older he can teach them to clean it properly and they will have no problems with infections. I talked to a nurse in the NICU when they were born and she said she would have never did it to her son if she knew what they actually did...
Calm down. No need to get defensive.
This thread is about the OP's baby boy. Not a grown man, so it's not nessesary to talk about retracting to clean under the foreskin. It's surprising to me how many women have no clue that they should not retract their infant son's foreskin (not you personally, just a general statement).
Hopefully the OP will research this cosmetic surgery more before making her choice.

You're totally right. I was shocked when I began researcing curcumcision and found out how simple it can be to take care of an in tact boy. I was also horrified by the amount of damage that can be done with botched circs and infections and scarring that happen pretty routinely. THen I watched a Youtube video of a circumcision. My decision was most definately made at that point. If someone can watch that happen and still feel confident that this totally optionaly medical proceedure is what is best for your infant, then peace be with them.
I know times have changed since my son was born (he just turned 16), but he was not circumcized until he was 2 years old...and before he was circumcized...I was told by his pediatrician to retract the foreskin to clean it. My son never acted like he was in pain. The dr said it was important to do it while he was young to stretch the skin so that as he got older he could do it himself when cleaning himself w/o causing any discomfort. I never did it to the point of causing him pain, just until the 'opening' was clearly visible and not hidden by any skin, and had to make sure that the skin was stretched evenly all the way around - ie not pulling one side back further than the other.

goodness, i said excuse me. im sorry if you felt that my statement was being defensive when it was not. that is the power of the internet. not everyone is trying to be rude, defensive or attacking every time they respond to something you say. her post was about her having to pay oop and the cost. everyone was giving their opinions and facts regarding circumcision. I gave my personal opinions and situations regarding circumcisions moreso from an older male's standpoint dealing with the men that i know.
Have a nice day.
