Hi Everyone,

I am hearing my medical will not cover this since it is no longer considered medically necessary.

Anyone know about how much it cost to have a circumcision done?

I am pre-paying for mine as it is not covered either, and the cost is $350.00. I started as soon as I found out he was a boy!!

Wish I would have found out sooner.  I just found out and my due date is less than 4 weeks away.
Thanks.

3-400.  it's considered cosmetic surgery so it's not longer being covered

I heard this too and checked with my insurance immediately and fortunately, tricare(military insurance) covers circumcision...I think it's ridiculous for any insurance co. not to cover it, but it's just another way for them to make money I guess :-(

no doubt about it being a way for insurance to make money!!!

I am having lots of trouble getting insurance for my son.  If I get it through work it will cost be over $500 per month (they only offier one plan and its got everything which he will not need for some time).  There are all kinds of "rules" to get him on his own plan (he has to be at least 31 days old before coverage starts blah, blah, blah.  Glad I started looking into this now cause its taking me a while to figure it out.  Just 4 more weeks until my due date.

Why would it be rediculous for insurance not to cover elective cosmetic surgery on an infant?! I'm confused. If I wanted labioplasty for my newborn baby girl because I didn't like the way her peach looked at birth, insurance would not cover that, as they will not cover any unnecessary medical surgical proceedure. If you elect to have your son's penis altered, that's your choice and one you are responsible for financially and otherwise.

I have to agree I think it is ridiculous! Why should a mother be responsible for a procedure that has been done for years upon years? A surgical procedure that is minimally invasive these days and was and still is considered unhygenic by the CDC. Also, there was a point in time when they thought uncircumcised boys had a greater risk for testicular types of cancer. It's not a mother's fault she is having a boy! We can't "choose" the sex of our children! I've never heard of a female baby having a labioplasty for hygenic reasons or such. If it were medically necessary for a female child to undergo this procedure for such a reason, I bet it would be covered. However, mother's giving birth to baby girls don't have this decision to make and I think it's another way the government is stripping parents of their natural rights as parents...to choose whether to cir****ize them and not have to say no just because it's costing the insurance companies way too much money because our health caer system drives up the costs of these elective procedures for ridiculous reasons!! And dumping that "oh if you want this you have to come up with XXX amount of dollars before your son is born" is just not something a mother so close to giving birth should have to think about- especially if the decision in the birth parents' home has already been made and they have decided to go with the circ.

Not trying to stir the pot here, but I think it has to be looked at from an angle of a mother delivering a baby boy!

I don't want to get into a debate but they aren't stripping you of your natural rights as parents.  If you still want to have your child circumcised, you are free to do so but since it is not a medically necessary proceedure, then you should have to pay for it.  There is no medical reason why it should be done.  And there is no "hygenic" reason it should be done.  You do not have to do anything special to care for an uncircumcised penis.  It is no different then cleaning any other body part.

We have now found out that this baby is in fact a boy and not a girl like we were told at 20 weeks.  The first thing out of my husband's mouth was, "we are not touching his weenie."  And my husband is circumcised.  He just sees not point in doing that to our son.  He is made that way, so why remove something that he is born with.
