Feeling Out Of Control

I have to admit that I am feeling very out of control with my eating in my pregnancy....I swore to myself that I would eat healthy this time around and I really try to most of the time, but have found it so easy to eat things especially sweets "because I'm pregnant"....now I feel like I've ruined my pouch and my eating habits and this scares me...has anyone else felt this way?  Also, I know we can eat more while we're pregnant, but please tell me our pouches return to normal restriction after giving birth because if not, I'm in trouble!

Hang in there girl!! I had my c-section on 2/27, gained 37lbs and was 221 at my last appointment...this morning I weighed 195. I'm 10 pounds from pre pregnancy weight. I definitely notice I don't eat nearly half as much as I used to. In fact, my hiccup syndrome has returned...I used to get the hiccups a lot when I was full, especially after surgery, but at 4 years out I'm back to getting those hiccups when I'm full :)  Hope that helps ya some!

Your stomach will return mostly back to normal but do be aware that the furter you get out from your surgery, the more you will be able to eat.....regardless of pregnanc..  This don't mean you will be able to eat like before surgery.....just quite a bit more than the 1st year or 2 out from surgery.  It's important to stay aware of your portion sizes and continue to drink plenty of water!  You can and will be able to loose the pregnancy weight.....some people it comes off very easily.....others have to work on loosing it (like I did, once I buckled down and got serious about my diet and exercise).

I am right there with you! I've wanted to write this post a million times over, but I suppose the same "shame" that led me to be a closet eater pre-op kept me from committing to writing it down. I try to stick to the post-surgery eating guidelines with my protein first but after that I lose it. I find it to be a constant battle between what I WANT and what I NEED!

I could have written this post :(  I've had two post bypass surgeries back to back and with this one I feel as if I've eaten non-stop the past few months.  I feel like most of my restriction is gone and my sugar tolerance is also up.

If given it a lot of thought and I think a few things are happening...not sure if its the same with you.  I'm pretty crappy at taking my vitamins (although I try) and getting the right amount of protein etc in, so I think my body is just trying to suck in as much nutrients as possible which has caused my hunger to grow.  Also, the hormones of pregnancy relax your muscles which I think is allowing my pouch to stretch more plus the stoma (opening into intestines) to stretch, allowing more food to pass out of the pouch easier.

So...good thing is my experience is that the restriction comes back a bit after pregnancy is over, but sometimes the bad habits stick with you a bit longer unless you bite the bullet and get back to it afterwards.  I guess I'm allowing myself to eat what my body seems to want right now (within reason), and I'm going to try to hop back on that bandwagon again afterwards.  We shall see how that goes lol.  I did the same thing with my first post bypass baby 8 months ago and I ended up being 20 lbs less 2 months after delivery than I was before I got pregnant...so I'm honestly not stressing it too much.

You should be ok....just try not to go toooo crazy lol...but eat!..baby needs it.

I have noticed the same things as you are saying about being able to eat more and being more tolerant to sugar...I am very good about taking my vitamins, but I just eat too many sweets and that's what I'm scared of...that after I have the baby, I won't be able to stop this habit of eating sweets again and eating too many...I'm terrified about it quite frankly :-(  I just don't ever want to go back to where I was before my RNY.

Yeah the sugar tolerance thing is what scares me the most because I think it was the thing that helped me lost the most weight overall.  I think we just need to buckle down on that issue and try to steer clear of it.  I do eat some great sugar free snacks when I'm really craving the sweets...and dont stress the calories too much.  (SF chocolate caramals, SF brownies etc).  A lot of the sugar free stuff is gross but there are a few out there that my husband cant even tell the difference...let me know if you need the brands:)

I am right there with you my friend.  Just try to remember that after the baby comes you may not even have those urges to eat sweets...its totally normal to have pregnancy cravings and that is most likely what is happening with you.  Just try to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy, and enjoy those occasional sweets...as long as the baby is healthy we can always loose the weight post baby.  I know with my daughter I gained 79 pounds and I lost 40 within the first 6 weeks ( I was breastfeeding too...and that was just from eating a healthier diet, not necessarily counting calories and exercising. )  So know that after the baby the weight does come off, and alot of us gain lots of water weight during pregnancy as our blood volume doubles inorder to provide for the fetus.  On a side note, we are very close in due dates I believe...my EDD 6/10/11.  I gained 23 pounds since my first OB appt at 6 weeks.  So thats 23 pounds in 25 weeks (not counting the few pounds I gained previous to pregnancy...ahhhh)  and the baby is measuring good...actually 2 weeks bigger...as of 2 weeks ago weighing in at 3.3 pounds per US...  How did your 3D US go???.  When is yours?  Hows the baby doing?  How much have you gained?

Thanks for your encouragement :-)
My 3D/4D ultrasound went great..got lots of great pics of my lil man and it was amazing!  The baby is doing great.  I started this pregnancy at 148 lbs and I weighed 185 last week, but I have to keep in mind, that I actually got too small right before I got pregnant...my normal weight should be 160 and I was at 148..so I try and tell myself that I did start out on the small side so it's not as bad as it seems.  I know after he's born, I'll get the will power to get back into shape because I've worked too hard not to stay healthy :)

Just being honest-   Eating bad things can definitely lead to post baby eating urges.  The pouch usually shrinks (good thing) BUT my tolerance for sugar never went back; my dumping days were long gone after baby.  Just try to think that carbs (sweets at least) lead to cravings, its like the never ending cycle.  From what I have seen you post you seem like a strong and determined person- I am sure you can do it.  Lots of women have no issue after baby. I am the rare case it seems, where the baby arranged my insides (including my stomach).   Keep positive.
