Callen- boy or girl?

Hey Chelle,
this is my son's name - spelled Callen, and it is pronounced Kal-en. However EVERYBODY wants to say KAY-lyn. It drives me crazy. I have started saying 'Callen - like Allen with a C'.
However I love it and it suits him.

Thanks, that it what I am worried about. There are other spellings that would be confusing. This is hard lol.

Sounds like a boy's name to me, however I could see if someone wanted to be edgy, they would name their girl that name!

I definitely think boy.  Not remotely close to girl to me.  I like it spelled Callen.  I don't think that would be hard to pronounce correctly because the double L's mean the a would have a short a sound like in Allen.  With just one L, it would phonetically look like Kaylen.  (Sorry, I'm an English buff).

I recently watched my daughters middle school principal stumble over 1/3 of the kids names during an award ceremony. I just REALLY don't want him to go through any of that.
In the principal's defense, most of the names were "out there"

I knew a girl names Callen, but I think it's a boys name.  Some people think Sage is a boy name, but I dont.  If you like it, go for it.

Boy name, with a feminine edge.  We considered it.  There's a Calen (Kay-len) at church, and he's a real rough & tumble kind of kid with a sweet disposition.  We chose another Irish name :)
