Awful HSG Today
I had my HSG test with my RE this morning and OMG it was horrible. I took a Xanax and a Lortab half an hour prior per his orders and thought I would be OK. The big problem was laying on the flat x-ray table which had no stirrups. I was expected to just hold my legs up in position so of course they were sliding and quivering. The pain I felt when the dye was injected was undescribable. I mean, I had an open RNY and I thought my pain threshhold was high, but wowzas this hurt like hell. Luckily the pain only lasted about 90 seconds and it was over. Something I never want to experience again!
The good news is that my RE has an awesome bedside manner and was very encouraging, reminding me that 90 seconds of pain is going to hopefully help make me more fertile and get me moving forward in becoming pregnant. My tubes had no blockages at all which was very welcome news!
So now we are back at it again. He wants us to try again for at least 12 months before talking AI/IUI. I have a prescription for Clomid, which I took this cycle, and he is going to let me experiment and take it when I want. Hoping for something soon!

I had an awful HSG about 3 yrs ago and boy, I hear you.One of my tubes was blocked and they kept injecting to try and unblock it (didn't work) - anyway, they did find that I had a fluid leaking from my tube (hydrosalpinx) which wouldmake implantation imposible, so I ended up having the tube removed.
Following that, is I went through 5IUIs, all with injectables for my ovarian stimulation and no babies. Then, we were told our only option was IVF - which wasn't a financial option for us at the time - - - yet - - - lo and behold, this baby came au naturel !!!!!!
Good luck with TTC

I'm sorry your test was so painful - but am very glad to hear you have no blockages.
Your dr wants you to keep trying for an additional 12 months, or 12 months total, including what you've already tried?
Good luck...I hope to see your BFP soon.

I have had two HSG's. The first was the first step with the RE and it hurt like HECK. The second was was not bad at all. I think it just has to do with positioning - which would be worse without stirrups. On my first one, they had trouble with the tubing for dye and vaginal ultrasound wand all being in there at once. The wand was cutting off the flow of the dye tubing. I finally told the doctor and the nurse - "Hello, you are not baking a cake, you are stirring my insides, please lighten up". They apologized and then the dye went through and it was over.
We did three IUI's - got pregnant and lost that baby. Then, did one more IUI didn't get pregnant, took a month off and got pregnant on our own - ectopic. Then, we were on hold to start drugs on the next cycle following my second HSG to ensure my ectopic was gone and I got pregnant on my own. So, I would say don't waste too much time. My RE required we tried for 6 months on our own (due to my age) and then he worked with us pretty aggressively (obviously not IVF).
Did he explain how to take the clomid? Have you been on clomid much before?
Sending baby dust your way,
Traci

Sorry you had to go through that. 90 seconds can seem like forever when it hurts like that! No pain, no gain...I guess!
Hopefully everything falls into place for you soon!
Best wishes,
