After long arugument with my OB
I am supposed to go in for Glucola test today. I am a SEVERE dumper, and have spent the last two appointments telling him "This drink will make me sick, VERY sick can we please do something else, or skip it since I am high risk monitored anyway?" "No you have to take it"
This is baby #4, I have never had diabetes, or GD. I have not had any symptoms. Would I be wrong to "fake" that I drank it and just drag it out if results come back and need the 3 hour? Ugh, I am just really not wanting to make myself that sick for something unneccesary! There are other options!
Will update when I get home about how baby is doing. I started contracting again last night so will have to have a chat with him about timing, and everything.
**Update**
I didn't take the drink. I went in fasting, and told him I would do the "breakfast" version which is they take fasting sample, then take another after a meal. Since I hadn't drank the stuff, he agreed. So glad I didn't drink that stuff. Baby is measuring right on target, two weeks ago was two weeks ahead. He said that is good, but if I come in next two weeks and she is small he will order a growth ultrasound, just to make sure. He told me that if I can stop my contractions by hydrating and elevating feet I don't need anymore terb (still long and closed), so I just have to give my body chance to calm down and if it doesn't work then I go in. So, for now all is well. Just have to keep an eye on myself.

My OB Dr. was okay with me eating 28 regular size Jelly Beans and then pulling my blood 1 hour later. I thought that wad bad enough, but when the gal called me back to draw my blood she had the sugary drink in her hand and wanted me to drink it. I refused and made her check with the Dr as to the special orders for my test.
I hope all works out for you at your appointment today.

You don't "have to" do anything you're not comfortable with especially if 1.) you know it's going to cause you physical discomfort and 2.) you know there are other options available to you. I wouldn't even give it the energy to fake drink it - just say NO!

I refused it and they made me finger stick 4 times a day for 2 weeks. I informed them if I had to drink that crap they would have to resuscitate me 30 minutes later because I would go into a hypoglycemic coma.

Ugh, your OB doesn't sound very educated about WLS and dumping... I would look into switching OBs. However, if you'd rather stick with the one you have and just not drink the Glucola, I'd pretend I drank it to pass the test! (yes, it's dishonest and all that jazz, but you know you will have a violent reaction to it and it sounds like you are already very good at reading your body's signals after 4 pregnancies)... I have DS so I don't dump and I'm not familiar with it, but wouldn't you already know if your sugars were a problem this pregnancy because you'd be dumping all the time??? That might be a dumb question...
Good luck!

You have the right to refuse any test. If they still have a problem, then, yea, I would probably fake it also. I have already done the test (I don't dump on anything) and it made me a bit sick but not to bad. They are going to have me take it again in the next month but I don't mind since it really has no affect on me.
I'm 11 weeks and my doctor ran a Glucola test on me Monday after I warned them this test makes me very ill. Their reaction was that none of the other GB patients had an issue. Well, 5 minutes after drinking the Glucola, I was sweating, lightheaded, panting and had to lay down. They had to leave a nurse with me because I couldn't confirm that I could stay on the table without falling. They gave me cold compresses. I don't remember the exam, but I do remember stumbling around trying to get dressed after the ultrasound. I was starting to even out, but then they drew all that blood and it got me really lightheaded again. Then they sent me on my way!
My mom is an ICU nurse in the hosptial connected to the medical building. I called her because I didn't think I could drive home because I was so lightheaded. She came down and immediately walked me to the cafeteria. She gave me a bagel and orange juice because she said one look at me she knew I was not well. After 20 minutes, I could feel my blood sugar rising again and feeling less light headed. My mom told me to never take the test again. I got home and my husband called to check on me. My mom called him at school to tell him what happened. He told me he doesn't want me to take the test again.
I have an appointment with my doctor next week for a mandatory weigh in and I will tell them I won't do the one for gestational diabetes. I see my endocrinologist the week after I see my OB and will ask him if there is any way they can test me for GD when the time comes since they see GB patients all the time. This is the 2nd time I had a bad Glucola test. The first one was to diagnose my hypoglycemia. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I'm not doing it again.
