Buy a house when you know there are 2 sex offenders on that block??


We put an offer in on this house  www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-Detail/browns-Mills_NJ_08 015_M54910-84725 of 108,000 and it was accepted!!!!!!

Before we put the offer I used the site familywatchdog.us and there are 2 registered sex offenders on our block.  I really don't know if there are any areas in the US where there are not sex offenders close to someone house, but would this deter you from buying the house?

 It would depend on the age of the offender, the type of offense and how long they had been free without repeat offense. Unfortunatly the sex offender registry has become a dumping ground for all sorts of  "offenders" and it makes it hard to figure out if their is true danger or not. 

 For sure.  I watched last week's episode of Raising Hope and they were making fun of the sex offender registration.  Evidently initially he had to register because they had sex underage, and then she had to register for peeing in public (in a back alley), and then the grandmother had to register because she stripped down.. lol

I LOVE that show, and that episode had me rolling!

yea that's what I am trying to weigh out.  The guy that is like prob 10 houses down from us is 26 and the offense it sexual assault with a female under 18.  I am guessing it might have been statutory rape but I dont know for sure.  then the other guy is around the block and he has a list of charges but honestly the neighborhood we are moving into has tons of families.  Russ doesn't think we need to worry, but I am always the worrier lol.

I was worried too when we came back with three people in our area, but after looking closer at it I knew it was not as big a deal as some would make of it. 

Is there a way you can find out what the actual offense was?  get the court docket?

Hell no. Check out Megan's Law, it will give you a free updated list and what their offenses were, as well as what their sentences were. I check mine every few months.
I believe only level 3 sex offenders are required to register...the most offensive of the bunch. So just because a 19yr old had sex with his 17yr old girfriend does not mean he will automatically be on the list. Most likely...not.
Honestly, unless you are having severe financial problems and have no other options, I would avoid that area...

The area we are moving to is NOT a bad area, the place we're at now is far worse.  If you look in any neighborhood there are sex offenders.  And on that site there are all different levels, not just level 3.
