SO I had my c-section march 31st..no complications.  They have been giving me the strong motrin every 4 hours and percocet every 6 hours.  I told them that I had the gastric bypass and normally we do not absorb motrin, but she said that they checked and it is ok...anyone else use it?

Motrin is an NSAID and shouldn't be taken after RNY.

We absorb it, it just can cause ulcers if taken to often.  that said, I took it a week after my c-section and I had to take baby aspirin for 10 weeks during my pregnancy (also an nsaid)

That's right.  I knew that we shouldn't take it I just could not remember why

Karen is right. NSAIDS can cause ulcers in RNY patients.  However, I have seen bari surgeons approve taking NSAIDS for very specific reasons in small dosages with the help of an antacid like Prevacid for RNY patients.  That being said, I would STRONGLY suggest that you call your bari surgeon's office and get his/her opinion and approval on taking an NSAID.

I also had a C and took Motrin for a few days after and then switched to Tylenol when my pain was manageable. I still take one here or there when I get the feeling like I'm swollen from over activity. I had a NP at my OB's office who was an RNY patient as well and she said it's not recommended at high doses for extended periods of time or on a regular basis, but in this case it more and likely won't do irreversible harm. Prior to my C I never took motrin- always Tylenol, but I had no problems...I do suggest eating something prior to taking it, so it's not on an empty stomach.

I just wanted to say also- you're little girl is adorable..I meant to post on your topic the other day and I totally didn't get the chance to. Congrats and hope you heal quickly :)
