Just got back from L & D

I am 32 weeks along and I was having some pretty intense braxton hicks all day yesterday.  This morning I woke up at 2:30am with bad diarrhea and the contractions and cramping  kept getting worse.  My lower back was hurting as well as my upper thighs.  Checked "What to expect when expecting" and got really scared cause these were all signs of labor.  Called L&D explained my symptoms and they advised me to come in.

They hooked me up to the monitors and baby's heartbeat was high 190 and they said I was having pretty consistent contractions.  Checked my cervix and it was still closed so I guess that is a good thing?  Does anyone know how fast this can change?  I mean it was closed now but could it change lots like overnight?   Did urine and blood work and I was very dehydrated, a bit on the anemic side and there were ketones in my urine.  They gave be 2 bags of IV fluids and this seemed to help settle baby's heartbeat and the contractions.

I am home now and my stomach is still rumbling and I still have a bit of diarrhea.  They told me to take OTC anti-diarrhea meds and if the contractions came back I should call them or go back in.

Feeling pretty junk right now.  Got headache, am feel very cold (it's 80 something degrees here today) along the diarrhea so may be a stomach virus which is going around now.  Trying to keep the water going, but really not much of an appetite for anything.  Won''t be getting any where near my 100 grams of protein today.

Braxton hicks or contractions (not sure what they are called at this stage) are starting to act up again.  Guess the good thing is if baby were to come now, there would be a chance for survival from what I've read but I am still a bit worried.

Thanks for reading.

MG

I am sorry to hear about your scary day. You are far enough that the baby would go to NICU and have a good chance of growing up without negative side affects. Try to drink gatoraide and relax. Being dehydrated can cause cramping. If the pain does come back go right back to L&D.

Sending you lots of well wishes. And hopefully no more scary wake ups for you tonight.

So sorry!! That is so yuck to get sick at this point...I know it is not easy bu****ER needs to be your best friend right now.  I had this with my last pregnancy from 33-36 weeks and it was all because I was not drinking near enough...everytime I would get re-hydrated the contractions would calm down...I just couldn't get enough to stay down because I had gotten a virus and then had a hard time "getting caught up".  I had IV fluids 3 times.  Finally I was good.  I went to 38 weeks 5 days.  Blessings to you!!

Water did helped with the contractions.  I had to really force myself to drink and drink and drink most of the night but it was worth it in the end. I have learned a valuable lesson.  Take care!

Maui~ I am sorry you are had a rough day.
I am sending good thoughts & wishes your way.
After I delivered Logan I was very dehydrated, the nurses
gave me room temp. water/juice mix and I got re-hydrated in
no time and I could stomach it better than cold.

Sorry to hear you had to go through this scary experience! Hopefully, you're feeling better soon and you keep that little baby cooking for these last 8 weeks!! :) And like Maryn said...DRINK, drink, drink - as we all know dehydration causes BHs so hopefully getting more fluids in will make them go away for now.
