Can't keep blood sugar stable....almost fainted tonight (again)
I'll be 11 weeks tomorrow. The past 3 weeks, I've been feeling like I'm always hungry, even in the middle of the night. I've been eating about every 1.5hrs, but sometimes I just get tired of eating. Last Sunday, I almost passed out at the grocery store because it had been 2 hours since I had eaten anything. Tonight, I almost passed out at my desk during my shift . I will describe what I ate today:
8:00am-Croissant and tangelo (woke up at 8am)
10am Egg and Sausage McMuffin without cheese
12pm Chocolate Chip Muffin (mini)
1:30pm Protein Bar and apple slices
3pm Peach
4pm Pot Roast Soup
started to feel faint at 5:15pm
5:30 Protein bar
6pm Apple
7pm Almonds
Fixing Mini Meat Pizza for dinner
My doctor told me to increase my carbs, which I have, but if don't eat when I feel hungry I feel like I will pass out. I was tested a few months ago and was found to be hypoglycemic. I'm drinking OJ and cranberry juice trying to maintain my blood sugar but i'm getting worried. My weight has shifted a lot over the past few weeks. I lost 1lb, then gained 6, lost 2 last week and now I'm back down to my pre-pregnancy weight. I take anti-nausea meds to handled my M/S so my appetite is back.
I can't think of anything to eat to maintain my blood sugar. I know the baby will take what it needs from me, but I'm so afraid I'm going to actually faint. I get shaky and sweaty and my heart beats really fast. I really hate this feeling, but I can't eat nonstop.
Any ideas on what I can eat to maintain my blood sugars? I have my OB visit Monday and will discuss this more with her, but I will take any advise at this point.

Milk maintains your BS better than juices. Juice will help spike you up faster but it doesn't last as long as milk. What about sucking on jolly rangers or other hard candies? Do you have a BS monitor at home to actually record how low your BS is going?
Another thing that can cause the dizziness and fainting is low BP. Try adding more fluids. Not sure what you can handle being RNY.
Hope those help until you get to your OB.

If you have reactive hypoglycemia, half of the things you are eating are NOT helping your blood sugar at all. For example the egg and sausage mcmuffin probably has the amount of carbs you need for the day in it, and with that much carbs and sugar (yes it has sugar) your sugars would be dropping. And also with the chocolate chip muffin. All these things are simple carbs and will keep your sugar up for the moment, but within an hour or two it will plummet. Believe me I had terrible hypoglycemia during pregnancy.
I would eat more fruit, which are still carbs but they are complex carbs, they will keep you blood sugar up way longer than muffins. Also apples, almonds and such are great to be eating. Fruit juice, for us WLS people is NOT good for keeping our sugars up. I made this same mistake. Milk is MUCH better, even though I am repulsed by milk I would drink a glass every night while preggo because I was afraid of my sugars dropping in my sleep. Also peanut butter is another good one.
Good luck

My hypoglycemia isn't reactive. I've had life long low blood sugar (between 68-72) and it's just really low now after surgery. I've had episodes after eating just turkey. I'm also lactose intolerant after surgery. Milk is the worst. I get horrible bowel issues.
I've tried peanut butter but something about the texture repulses me. My husband tried to give me a Reese's but that wasn't much fun either. I'll try eating more fruit. Thanks for the suggestins.

I am not pregnant but this helps me throughout the day so I do not get weak and mushy~
Cheese & apples with Flatout toast (sometimes I use homemade fruit jam )
Whole grain carb with peanut butter, then some milk~
Sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and some dried fruit (cranberries, raisins, apricots or cherries)
Raisin Bran with Milk (but add 1/2 protein powder serving) It helps too because of the BRAN!
My doctor stessed not to have juice since I will spike then drop again; she added that having a complex carb and dairy will raise it but stay with me longer... (not sure of the medical terms, sorry)
I wish you well pal~Cheri

Try these as pizzas, it will have dairy, veg, carb & protein.
I am a peanut butter nut so it is my go to but I work at a "NUT FREE" school...
The sunflower kernels (I do not brake them up, I buy the shelled ones)are great because they are crunchy and salty...
1/2 cup of the kernels= 14 carbs and 11.5 protein
Take care Lolli~
I wish you a healthy and well journeyCheri
