The rule of thumb I'd always heard was just baby shower for the first unless the next was 10 or more years after the first.

That said, it's 2011 - do whatever the hell you want! If someone finds it offensive or tacky, then they don't have to come.

And I SO also love the "welcome to the world" party idea!

Thanks for the etiquette info...I just never knew or considered it until now! LOL   I love the welcome party idea too! :)

I say go for it... in my opinion, there are no rules... nor is it considered tacky. Initially DH and I decided not to have any showers but we were surprised with the one from work and church.. This was baby# 3 and i was given showers for each of the babies. Matter of fact, with Rhyan who is 5 weeks old, I was giving 3 showers (work, church and family)... So if there are any rules, i broke them all... EVERY BABY SHOULD BE CELEBRATED.. and if you dont want to make it big, this about a diaper shower or baby sprinkle...

Good Luck

Thank you!  Since posting this, a friend came forward and said she would like to throw me one!  I was so surprised and I'm going for it!!  :)  Congrats on your newborn!
