Vitamins and Pregnancy post RNY

Hello Everyone,
I am currenly 6 weeks pregnant with an IVF "sea monkey" as my daughter calls the baby. I was wondering what everyone's experience has been with vitamins during pregnancy? I am currently taking my multivitamin, folic acid, prenatal, b12, and calcium (along with my pepcid and tums and baby acid from the side effects of Progesterone and IVF).  Are there any concerns as far as malabsorption of any of these vitamins post RNY 4 years ago that you have come across? Also, I have not had morning sickness "yet" but has anyone heard of suggestions as to whether we should retake our vitamins if we send them back up after taking them?

I am looking forward to meeting other expectant or hopeful mothers who are also going through this journey, after already making through the wonderful WLS journey.

HI and congratulations :)
Your vites sound good. Just be sure you are taking calcium citrate and no more than 500mg at a time. I would also add in a D3. But you need to get a full lab panel drawn to check all your vitamin levels. So if you are deficiant in anything, you can add to it now. I had a whole panel drawn yeasterday....18 tubes of blood. So when you go, bring some juice and a snack with you. I was actually asked to leave as soon as I stood up from the chair because they were closing and for a moment actually forgot where I was or what color my car was. So bring that snack. And let your WLS know you are pregnant so they can order the labwork and get you in to speak to the nutritionist. Be sure you are eating some healthy carbs, ketosis is bad for fetal development.
Good luck!

Hi,

I'm about 5 1/2 yrs post surgery and your list seems good.  I found that Vit. B6 was good for nausea (along with getting water in, that also helps with being tired).  Also, make sure you get your Iron checked.  I also take Expectra (sp?) that can be found at any store in the Vitamin aisle. Definitely get the 'panel' done to make sure.

My only thoughts on if you send your vitamins back up, try taking them at night instead of the morning.  I would definitely check with your OB/Dr. to be sure though. (Worked for me when taking BCP years & years ago).

Congrats & hope your newest journey is a safe & smooth one!!
