Curious about number of U/S
So I am just curious if my OB/Specialist is cautious or if others have had the same visit schedules.
My Specialists has me going for an U/S every 3 weeks and wants to keep doing this until I deliever the baby. In the beginning I had alot of extra tests (example: Fetal Echos) because my down's came back higher and because they views of the heart were not the greatest. But I have been cleared by the cardiologist saying Liam's heart looks perfect and no need to follow up. I thought my U/S around the 24th wk would be my last. But nope. Every three weeks to check up on his growth. At 29 wks he was measuring 2lb 15oz. Dr says this is within normal range. SO why all the extra U/S!!!??
My Ob says he is concerned cause of my surgery and wants to just double check on the baby's growth. I am fine with that (besides being so tired of the hour plus wait time to see the drs) but it made me curious.

blah blah blah... i'm not a fan of labeling us "high risk" just because we had wls. sheesh! it sounds like that's all your OB is basing these US's on. Better safe than sorry. If your OB is coding this a required than your insurance will pay for it. Look at it as more opptys to see your little one growing.
So far I've had 3 sonograms. The first at 11 weeks to check dates. The second at 13 weeks - the Nuchal sonogram and the 3rd at 18+ weeks for the anatomy scan. When I had the Nuchal scan done I was sent to a high risk practice and there they recommended sonograms to be done on average of 3 to 4 weeks until delivery. Since I was only there for the one scan I spoke to my OB about their recommendations and although he will order at least one more scan later in the pregnancy to check for development he doesnt feel that there is a need to so them on at regular intervals. He did, though, stress the point that there is no reason to be alarmed about exposure due to multiple sonograms that as to date there is NO data to suggest any harm to mom or baby.
I am going for a 3D/4D sonogram tomorrow night by choice. I'm nosey and really want to determine gender. I cleared it with my OB and he was all for it!
I guess that it all comes down to physician preference.

When I was pg. with Claudia I had an u/s at every appointment. which were once a month until the last two months then they were biweekly then weekly in the 9th month. She was my first post op baby and I was only 9 months out when I got pg so I am sure it was just to make sure she was getting what she needed.
Now that Im pg with this one, IDK what he will do this go around.
Enjoy the u/s. Stay cautious and aware, but enjoy them. I have an entire photo album of baby u/s pics from when Claudia was in the tummy!!

I had one at 6 weeks due to previous ectopic pregnancies to check for viable placement, again at 11 to monitor heartbeat (informal in room). Then at 17 weeks, they didn't get all they needed so again at 20. Noticed an EIF so I had to have another for level 2. I was told no more unless there is a problem. With my daughter, pre wls, I had exactly what you are having, every three weeks by a perinate and was told it was due to possible complications from high blood pressure. She was delivered at 32 weeks because her heart rate kept dropping so I am kinda nervous I am NOT getting those extra ones done this time...
I love ultrasounds...really. Anything that lets me see or hear the baby before Sept...bring it on :)
It could just be she is being very cautious because you had WLS. That is a good thing.
It's even more frustrating when you are begging for an ultrasound because you are scared about something and they blow you off.
Enjoy your extra viewing and don't worry.

Hi there,
I am with a "high risk"perinatologist, not for my RNY but for my "advanced maternal age" - I am 38. I have had an US every 2 weeks since week 6, which was early to check that the pregnancy was viable. (the only week I didn't have one was when they did a smear/ swabs etc.) - but even that week I went for a gender determination scan as I was 16 weeks and wanted to know asap, lol. (another boy by the way)
I also always have my US performed by the perinatologist himself - never a technician. As far as I know, I have only had one when they gave me a guesstimate on size/ weight and he was right on target.
As Chelle says, just enjoy them, - I really think that it depends on the Dr themselves and their own experience and policies.

I have weekly bio scans of baby and now will likely have them twice a week. I also have growth scans every 3 weeks. Obviously because my baby is very small! BUT I think your doc is being very thorough and that's great! If you have any concerns just ask! I am 31 weeks and my baby is only measuring 2.9 pounds...Your baby sounds right on target!
