Hi Kim,
I TOTALLY get where you're coming from. It is frustrating that most bariatric surgeons lump all surgeries into the same 12-18 month post op to TTC category. I think the main reason why they do that is to give everyone enough time to lose the bulk of their weight. My common sense feeling is that if someone were to become pregnant (accidentally or planned) prior to the 12 month post op mark, it would probably be easiest on a bandster, followed by a VSG patient, then a RNY patient, then a DS patient. Due to the malabsorption of vitamins and ability to eat enough to support a baby.
I am totally chomping at the bit too. Instead of looking at it like "I have to wait 6.5 more months to TTC" I started thinking "I have 65 more pounds to lose before I TTC." It gives me more of a sense of control. I am hoping I will lose those 65 more pounds sooner than 6 months from now and will ask my surgeon for the green light a bit early ;)
Maybe you could revise your goal to a realistic goal weight and give yourself a few more months to get closer? We all know how hard it is to wait!

Hi Nikki,

Thanks and I agree and agree with you on the ranking of surgeries as well, but my WLS doc said, no - they are all the same  (I think he might want to be protecting from possible lawsuit, but thats just me).

If i were to lose 10+ lbs a month, then I might wait a few more months, but its not happening that way and I'm OK with the slow weight loss, but I am going to wait until I reach the goal weight to make the appointment and then it usually takes a few weeks to get an appt - so hopefully will be down more prior to the first meeting and then another few lbs prior to starting treatments - so 285 or so.

The goal I have listed is my overall goal, not my immediate goal and I'm OK with having it there as I'm very good with Long Range goals.. :)  I will probably not reach that until after having two kids (the goal) and will probably be over 40 as well.

Again, thanks for your feedback and items to think about. I appreciate it!

Kim

It sounds like you've really thought it through a lot.  One thing about having a baby/toddler, you'll get more exercise!  LOL  Good luck with TTC!
