New here!!
Hi everyone! I am 14 months out of RNY surgery, my surgeon has given me the go ahead to ttc. Prior to my gastric bypass my husband and I ttc with no luck, was diagnosed with PCOS and was basically told if I lost even 10% of my weight that my cycles should be regular again, I am now on the nuvaring. My PCP said I will know if the PCOS is gone when I go off of birth control and start getting regular cycles.
What time frame did your surgeon recommend before you should get pregnant after surgery, I was told 12- 18 months. I want to wait closer to 18 months to be on the safe side, however my PCP suggested I should start taking a prenatal multi about 6 months prior to ttc, can anyone recommend a prenatal multi-vitamin that has everything post ops need in it.
Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum!!! :) My sister has PCOS and I suspect I had it prior to my RNY (though I was never diagnosed). My sis (who has no serious weight problem) just got preggers using Chlomid (sp?) and I found out I was pregnant 6 months after my surgery, while on BC. My surgeon also suggests 12-18 months from surgery and I would say I would wait as long as I could....though you are probably good to go by now, safer is always better, right? :) If you compare your bariatric vitamins to prenatal vitamins, they contain just as much if not more than some of the stuff we need, except folic acid...we need to add a little more. I believe there are 2 common approaches to the vitamin regimen - 1) keep everything the same and add a folic acid supplement (this is what I do with an 800mcg folic acid supplement) and 2) keep everything the same except replace one of your daily multi-vits with a prenatal vitamin. OTC prenatals are okay, though if you can get prescription ones for cheap, they tend to be a little better IMO (less dyes and more reliable amounts to ingredients). You may have to up your iron as well as your body creates more blood volume when with child.
Good luck to you...hope you enjoy this forum as much as I have so far!

congrats congrats congrats.
So I asked my NUT about prenatal and she told me that my bariatrics are better for me plus adding an additional Folic.
I did a compare of my bariatric multi and a prenatal and low and behold .. she was right. It had either the same or more of everything.. including folic.
but.. your mileage may vary. I would say do some nutrition label shopping and see what you get.
Good luck in the journey... Im a PCOS person myself. (never goes away but symptoms are much more reduced when you are at a lower weight)
