Pregnancy after VSG?
Hi All,
I'm considering getting the VSG... one of the reasons that brought me to the point of considering WLS is that I was obese when I was pregnant with my son and I don't want to go through that again, but I would like to have one more child.
Does anyone here have experience with getting pregnant after having had the VSG and if so, what can you tell me about that experience... what, if anything, should I know prior to getting the surgery?
Thanks!

My post-WLS baby will be a month old tomorrow. ![](http://images.obesityhelp.com/_shared/images/smiley/msn/heart.gif)
He was a total surprrise pregnancy and I was only 9 mo post-op (down 130 lbs- from 330 to 200). I totally freaked out because I had an IUD in place at the time. My OB and my WLS surgoun were super supportive and after talking to them, I felt a lot better about my unexpected pregnancy and the chances of having a healthy baby after WLS.
It was a super easy pregnancy but I did have some problems eating enough. I literally had to set a timer to remind myself to eat every 3 hours and had to switch to full fat dairy, and other high calorie/ high protein foods to make sure I was getting enough for both me and the baby.
I gained a total of 20 lbs the entire pregnancy, baby boy weighed 8.8lbs and was born on his due date after 3 hours of labor. Before I left the hospital I was already down 17 lbs.
As far as vitamins, my OB checked my vitamin lvls 3 time during pregnancy and all 3 times my numbers were perfect. I only required a daily prenatal vitamin since there is no malabsorption to worry about.
And now with breastfeeding, the weight is falling off at about 2-4 lbs a week and I'm still eating constantly to keep up with the calorie requirements for breastfeeding.
If you have any other questions, I'd be happy to try and answer them.
Good Luck.
My love my VSG.

Hi there,
I am pregnant with my first baby. I had the VSG about a year before I got pregnant. Was an accident but a happy one. I have had no issues related to the VSG. I can eat WAY more than I could before getting pregnant. My specialist is doing more U/S than normal to keep measuring the baby's growth. He is right on target but the Dr is being cautious which I am fine with.
If you have any other questions feel free to pm if you like.
