Another update on Shannyn B

Hi all!

I got a text an hour or so ago that said she is dialated now to a 3 and they have given her another shot of steroids.  She is still in the hospital.  Now we are just waiting to see how the girls do with this latest shot.  I'll post more on this thread as soon as I know anything.

Thanks Renae, are the steriods for their lungs or to stop labor?

When doctors aren't sure if they are going to be able to stop pre-term labor, they give the mom steroids to mature the baby's lungs.  They give two shots 24 hours apart.  They also try to stop the contractions with another drug called terbutaline.  This makes the mom's heart race and all kinds of other nasty side effects.  Some times they try magnesium also.  I know you addressed your question to Renae, but I thought I'd answer.

that's what I thought they were for but I wasn't sure.  Thanks.  I sure hope she isn't in too much agony from all those meds..

for the babies lung development... they actually work quite well if you get the 2 doses...the terb is an awful drug but can work miracles... i give that drug massive amounts of credit for keeping me pregnant 4 adtl weeks with jayson.. he also had the steriods at 31 weeks when i went into labor the first time

Here's hoping Shannyn can keep the little ones baking for as long as possible.  Lots of prayers going out to her and the babies.
