Hey Ladies,

My baby girl turned 1 today and I still can't believe that it has been a year. How did you transition your baby to whole milk? Did you start mixing it with the formula or go cold turkey? Please share your methodologies.

Also, how did you get your baby to start drinking from a sippy cup? My baby girl doens't want to hold her bottle and just like to play with the sippy cup.

Thanks!

With Max I just went straight to milk in a sippy cup not a bottle. No problems at all with it.

Thanks for your response.  We are trying to get Malea to drink from the sippy cup, but she just like to play with it.  She won't even hold her own bottle even though she can.  We are trying to figure out how to transition her to the sippy cup too.  I guess that I should have asked that too.

happy birthday!.. ive heard many ways to do thins.. including 2 oz milk 6 oz formula and then give her 2 more oz of milk every few days until you get a full 8 oz milk.. usually thats a very long process ( think about a month).. i did half and half in a bottle.. for a week then whole milk in a cup.. i use the cups with the straws.. at first she didnt like the milk and but had no problems digesting it... so ( and yes i asked the dr) put some chocoalte syrup in the milk .. just enough to give it some flavor and she drank it.. i would put less and less chocolate into her mil****il there was none at all..

Thanks for the response.  I have tried giving her some whole mil****assionally and she seems to like it and it didn't seem to upset her stomache, so today I put 1/3 milk and 2/3 formula in her bottles.  Hopefully, I will get a good report from her daycare provider.  If so, I will increase it to half and half until this last can of formula runs out.  I did buy her a sippy cup with a straw, so we will just have to work on it.  She will get there eventually.  Heck...I remember having a bottle way past when I should have and I turned out okay...LOL.

My son is 13 months old and was only taking cereal bottles when he turned 1. I was REALLY worried about him taking milk. We went cold turkey with bottles and gave him milk in a sippy cup with his meals when he is most thirsty (water sippy cup when not eating). He HATED milk at first, but slowly started to drink a little more and a little more. Now he drinks a  sippy cup of milk with each meal! In the beginning when he was only taking an ounce or so at a time, we supplemented his meals with greek yogurt and cheese (thanks to great advice from this board!) The first sippy cup he actually took to at first was the kind with a straw because he didn't have to tip it back to drink from it. Good luck!
