There are people here who have gotten pregnant soon out of surgery. It's not ideal. but WL has to be your 2nd priority now. The baby's health comes first. I hope you are working with a nutritionist and your WLS staff knows you are pregnant. It is important to take your vitamins and eat a good balance of fruits and vegtables. Ketosis is dangerous for a babys development..
As long as you do not gorge on junk then you should be able to get back on the loss wagon shortly after birth. But please don't worry about that now.

Some of you need to bring it down a notch and stop with the bad attitude. We all had WLS because we needed it,and just because one gets pregnant does not mean the food/weight loss head game won't come in to play. The OP recently had surgery,so naturally in her head she is going to want to lose weight, that does not mean she is doing anything to harm herself or hurt her baby. Additionally, her main question was about weight loss AFTER the baby. There is NOTHING wrong with getting answers now so she can be prepared in the next 2-3 months when she has the baby. OP,i think as long as you go back to eating the way we did when we first had VSG the weight will slide off. The good thing is we still will only have 20-40%(depending on how much your surgeon cut off) of our stomachs so you won't be able to overeat like you could with previous post pregnancies. I think you will be fine. With my 2nd,i was 236 delivery day and within 3 weeks i was 205,so i can imagine it will be similar now.

P.S. I had surgery 4 days after you and am 14 weeks preggo, and totally healthy as i assume you are!  Trust me there are a TONNNNN of women just like us that refuse to post here, and have had and are having totally healthy pregnancies even though they conceived soon after surgery!Good luck!!
vsg- 8/6/2010 -no pre-op diet done!

There are also a "ton" of women who got pregnant early out & had miscarriages, preemies or just sickly babies. Most WLS docs know nothing about a pregnant woman/fetus's needs and will give them the wrong nutritional info. Same with OB's not knowing about WLS patients. So they are given the WRONG advice frequently. There is a girl who posts here who now has Ricketts (sp) because she followed the wrong vitamin advice. The baby will take everything it needs from you. If you are not taking the right vitamins then that leaves you at high risk for joint disease, osteo-arthritis, massive dental problems, ect.. There is just so much conflicting info on pregnancy after WLS that everyone has to be sure they are doing the right thing.

And your point is??? Guess what,i had a miscarriage wayyyy before i even gained enough weight to even consider having WLS. I also had a 35 weeker in 2000 and a 36 weeker in 2005(preemies) soooooo having a child early out from WLS does not guarantee you will have any more sickness or pregnancy issues than a regular person. Additionally on my baby board even now in the 2nd trimester,at least once a week someone comes on saying goodbye because they had a miscarriage,i see plenty of stillborns, and guess what they had no WLS! I am not encouraging it at all,but like i said she asked a question and no one answered, that is MY POINT!!  I will say it may depend on your surgery also,as my surgery does not have the malabsorption issues that most of the RNY posters here have, and neither did the OP. Good luck to you!

My point is....one of the reasons pregnancy right after WLS is dangerous is because of the conflicting medical advice given by different dr's. I was told  a month ago by my nutritionist at the WLS dr's office.... to gain less than ten lbs and avoid any and all carbs. Did I follow their advice? No, because it would have possible led to a brain damaged baby. I also had to fight with them to give me my monthly B12 shot.
If you have spent any time reading this board you would see how often RNY patients come on here questioning the instructions the OB's have given them. Things that are scary and downright dangerous. Like telling a gastric bypass woman that only one (or no) vitamin daily is fine. No extra calcium is needed. B12 is not necessary. That Flinstones gummies for children are fine (even to someone pregnant with twins, recently). No, No, and NO is any of this advice ok and I get furious reading it.. These moron doctors are not going to be held accountable if our babies come out with serious health issues. Nor will they pay our medical bills when our bones start crumbling randomly like a 95yr old's.
