Weight gain/stomach stretching/constipation
I want to thank you in advance for any help. I havent posted on this site in a long time. I have been researching but, I havent been able to find anything and figured this would be the best place since you guys have experiences with this. I had RNY surgery 02/09 and lost about 120 lbs. I am 10 weeks pregnant and have gained about 2 lbs. I am concerned because I am having no issues with eating at all. I feel like I could eat and never get full. I have obviously not tried this but, I know that I can eat more than I could before and it does not bother my stomach. I am terrified of gaining too much weight. I am also terrified that after I have the baby that I will no longer get full with my usual meals. I have read that the hormones relax everything so maybe this is why it feels this way. I am also having horrible problems with constipation and my doctors will not let me take anything except colace which does not help at all. Honestly I will go a week without going and was use to going daily. This is the only time when it hurts to even eat when I have gone the week without going to the bathroom. My upper abdomen gets so hard and sticks out like I am pregnant up there. I just wanted to see if anyone has anything to tell me. Thank you in advance!
Well, I would say as far as being able to eat more...you can't change that, but you can combat the urge to gorge yourself. Make sure to never let yourself get too hungry, eating little meals all throughout the day. Clear the house of junk foods, surrounding yourself with good carbs and hearty snacks. Indulge in cravings in MODERATION.
As for the constipation....I definitely know what you're going through. I just got over my first trimester and I was only having BMs every 3 weeks. My OB told me to take colace as well, but when that didn't work, he said I could use enemas. Using enemas and suppositories, I was able to relieve myself a couple times a week, but unfortunately I developed hemmorhoids that now hurt every time I have a BM...which is regular now that I'm into my second trimester. I know you shouldn't go against your doc's orders, but you also can't go that long...it is so painful, not to mention toxic. I would talk to the doc again, do some research, and weigh the risks and benefits of trying other methods.
Congratulations and best wishes to you!

You are able to eat more during pregnancy. It is said to be from the hormones relaxing your muscles and the stomach is a muscle. I am breast feeding and I still have to cut myself off at a certain point even though I need the food, my pouch will not allow it.
As far as the gain. You do what you have to do to support the growing baby! I gained about 65lbs. I am taking off the weight but I was upset until I came to the realization that I was pregnant and not just gaining the weight. I have lost over 35lbs now, and still going. You may even have to work at it, but remember your surgery is only a tool anyway!
The constipation.... Miralax worked wonders for me. It was a first trimester thing. I have a problem with constipation now, and I eat 2 Fiber One bars and take my Colace. It works for me.

I haven't been on the forums in years, but I am 14 weeks into my second post-op pregnancy and have been lurking and just had to post. . .Miralax was a lifesaver for me: With both of my pregnancies I had to take miralax once a day every other day for the entire first trimester and then 3 or 4 times a week for the rest of the pregnancy even though I drink 9-11 glasses fo fluids religiously every day.
I also noticed on the days I felt energetic enough to exercise, my bowels moved a little easier the next time I had the urge to go, so exercising might help as well and it'll probably help slow down weight gain if it starts creeping up faster than you'd like, although make sure you check with your ob-gyn before you start anything strenuous.
( I also take colace everyday even when I';m not pregnant every since my surgery, so I have severe constiption issues anyways. )
I feel your pain when it comes to the scale: I'm freaking out about weight gain this time around more than last time bc I've already gained 10lbs bc it feels like I am constantly hungry and weeks 5-12 if I wasn't constantly nibbling crackers or toast or grnola bars I was dry-heaving, so I think I gained 6lbs just from all those carbs!
