New to this board- and tons of questions
Hello, My name is Cherie. I am new to this board. I am 36 weeks pregnant and had my RnY in Sept/ 09. With the end of the pregnancy gaining on me im starting to get so scared of all my mistakes thoughtout it. First let me say that before i got pregnant i was very "religious" with my surgery and everything i put into my mouth, in fact i lost almost 100 pounds within the first 6 months. Then i got pregnant, all the cravings and i was suddenly able to eat so much, well needless to say, i did, and, here is me scared that after i have this baby i will be no better off then before WLS. I am now 194 pounds, yep ive gained 52 pounds and still have a month to go. Here are my questions, what do i do after the baby is born? Will my stomach go back to being small again, like after surgery? Will i start dumping again, even though since i got pregnant ive stopped? have i screwed up my chances of being thin forever!! HELP!!!thanks for listening
I think for many women, the relaxin our body produces during pregnancy stretches the stomach a bit to accommodate more food.....my understanding is that it will bounce back a bit after delivery. I've also seen many women do the 5 day pouch test to get back on track and show themselves that their tool is still in working order. 52 pounds may seem daunting right now, but remember that you will lose quite a few pounds in the few weeks after delivery just from baby, placenta, and water retention...I lost 30 within 3 weeks with my first child which was pre-op. You will be able to do it! Your tool is most likely NOT ruined, athough I wouldn't expect it to be just like after surgery...
Best wishes on your upcoming delivery......I hope someone with experience post-op can help you more! :)

I haven't had a post-op baby but just wanted to say Welcome and Congrats on your pregnancy. There are many women here who have given birth post-op and I know will be eager to share their experiences with you. You've come to the right place!

Cherie,
You'll be fine. If you dumped before, I'm sure you'll dump after. Your body is so different during pregnancy it seems.... I couldn't eat/drink any milk products without serious consequences before getting pregnant. During pregnancy I could eat/drink anything I wanted with no problem at all. I also felt like a bottomless pit!!
After having my boy (this is my first and last baby) I'm back to no dairy--not worth the side effects. And I don't feel hungry. Not to mention, you're so busy...you don't think about eating except when you need to.
Best wishes to you!

Hi Cherie. I can tell you that during my last pregnancy I found I could eat alot more than before. I gained around 30lbs and lost all but 5-10 after surgery. Your tool will still work! I would suggest that once the baby is born to just be aware of what you eat.....don't let yourself overeat and watch your portions.....eat your protein 1st and you will find the weight will come off! I can assure you, you wont be stuck at nearly 200lbs! Oh and drink lots of water!
